Will the animals and insects that currently inhabit the park be decantanted like the Aylesbury & Heygate tenants?
Rather than rip out what we currently have, why can't it be inhanced? I'd love to see the canal back. I understand that the soil below the lake is contaminated and therefore the lake needs to be drained & re...lined - the canal would be ideal as a temporary home for the lakes stock & could eventually be linked with the lake.Read More

Felicity Deamer

Felicity Deamer I spoke to the manager of the project yesterday and she says that she agrees that to ban dogs from the park would not be sensible and would not reflect public opinion. She said that if they do choose the Gillespie design, then they would negotiate with them on this issue.

Keith

Keith I much prefer the LDA design, the other looks like the logo came before the plans for the park. Plans to close the underpas and force park users to cross a busy road are insane as are any thoughts of making it dog free. The community square plan in Gillespies is good. Welcome plans for cafes but 3? can the park sustain 3? I could go on and on here...!!!

Sara Jane

Sara Jane I spoke to the design team at the recent event. It is not a dog ban - Gillespies propose to introduce dog areas. They said that the idea could be seasonally flexible and would work with dog owners to find an acceptable solution. Many people are afraid to use the park because of the 'free reign' that dogs have at present. Seems sensible to me.

Dean Woods-Jeram

Dean Woods-Jeram I think the LDA design is better, more for there suggestions around the lake, that tar-mac job they did a few years back made a part of me die inside it was that bad! As far as dogs go, a dog ban would be unfair but I do think dogs should be made to walk on a lead, atleast in certain areas and thats coming from a dog owner of 20 plus years.

Why do you think that all dogs should be kept on a lead? Have you met agressive dogs or would your dogs ever harm or frighten a member of the public?
I think it is unethical to keep a dog and not to have access to somewhere in which they can run freely.

Michael Hudson

Michael Hudson i much like to see a skate/bmx park but that's not going to happen is it !
i ALSO would like to take my kid to the park to play BUT that also might not happen.
i think the designs are totaly pants let the kids chose what goes in there park.
whats is with the no dogs thing ? how sad can you get

such a shame the designs are so poor.

John

John I much prefer the LDA design. It looks as though much more thought has gone into it and the design looks as though it is giving more for the money to local residents. I agree with the earlier comment, to make the park dog free as Gillespie's suggests is to disenfranchise many local residents with dogs who mainly exercise them there. Its a silly idea altogether.

Felicity Deamer

I can't believe that the Gillespie design includes a proposal for the park to be dog-free. The park, as it stands, is a really relaxing place to go for dog walks. If you go to Burgess park at any time of the day then you will see that it is used by so many local people to walk their dogs. I walk my dog there twice a da...y and we would have no where else to walk her in the vicinity if burgess park was dog-free. Many local dog owners do not have cars to enable them to drive elsewhere to walk their dogs, so they would be completely stuck. So we have to vote here between two designs. It is one thing to vote on which is your favourite design based on what they look like, and it is another to vote to exclude a whole group of local people who use the park on a daily basis to walk their dogs. Based on this, I am definitely voting LDA!!!Read More

It feels like neither of the designers and teams involved have kids! No play area?? I appreciate that people put a lot of work into the projects but they both look really plain and boring to me. It could be better and more imaginative.
I worry what's going to really look like when finished but I'm sure it'll be better ...than what it is now. Most of all I worry about the disruptions that the renovation will cause in the neighborhood. The works around Chumleigh Gardens have been going on for a while.
When are the works really to start in the whole area??

I cycle through Burgess Park daily on my route to work. I love the fact that this park, along with the Surrey Canal Walk, provide a quiet, safe basis for a cycle route into central London from Peckham - I hope that nothing will be done as part of these plans to make it more difficult for cyclists to use the park.

The ch...erry tree walks look lovely to me and it would be great to do more with the lake.

I hope that sustainability - in terms of environmental impact and finances to maintain the park - have been thoroughly considered in these designs. One of the problems at the moment is that some areas seems to have been let go, particularly some of the paths near the tunnel and near the tennis courts.

Congratulations for the project to fix up this crucial green space!

Burgess Park Have you had your say on the designs? You have until Monday... Thanks for all the comments so far!

James Taylor-Nye

James Taylor-Nye I love the Gillespie design with the square and the walk. My family lived on and around Neate street for the best part of 150 years and I'm sure my Nan would have loved what hopefully the park and area will soon become.

Some famous architect/landscape designer said that a good park shouldn't have visible borders, the idea of an infinite green landscape should remain as an objective. Maybe that could be also a starting point? When I spoke with both design teams they said their proposals were not definitive...logically, but how can we t...hen decide? Shouldn't they have studied and considered everything before presenting the proposals? What about a second round, taking into account all that is being said here and the feedback they might have had during the "open day" in the park?Read More
