One of the things that's also common amongst people in ministries (but of course with humans in general) is a lack of self-control. It ruins relationships and can sometimes burn bridges that were meant for our good. Prothumia Institute's Facebook page had a nice way of putting it: "Anger is the result of allowing others to steer your emotions. ... See MoreDon't let rage cause you to miss your peace. Take the steering wheel out of their hands and put it back in yours by commanding your soul to bless the Lord!"

CALLED Magazine We Can Set Boundaries - Women in Ministry - Weekly Devotional - November 12, 2009
Effective leadership requires that we have the ability to set boundaries. Yes, we are called to a life of love, mercy, and generosity — but sometimes the best love we can offer is a firm and resounding "NO." After all, didn’t Jesus set boundaries?

Have you found yourself feeling stressed, annoyed, tired, or even burned-out by "obligations" that you took on against your better judgment? Have you allowed others to pull you in directions that you did not feel led to go in? Has your inability to set boundaries given some an opportunity to "cros...

CALLED Magazine Don't Confuse the Two - Women in Ministry - Weekly Devotional - October 14, 2009
There is a common misconception that contentment and complacency are the same. Well, they’re not. Complacency can make us resistant to change, and satisfied with the status quo. Contentment leaves us open to growth, and helps us recognize ...the value of what we already have. A wise person once stated,

“Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have.”

How often do you take the time to count your blessings? Do you spend more time thanking God for what He has already given you, or asking Him to give you more?

CALLED Magazine God Will See - Weekly Devotional - August 14, 2009
Laboring for the Lord with a consistent standard of excellence can present its challenges. After all, a busy schedule, fatigue, and boredom can tempt us to cut corners from time to time. The Word reminds us, however, that "The eyes of the Lord are in every place…" (Prov...erbs 15:3, NKJV). Join the discussion. Share your thoughts.
