Hi everyone just a few more examples of how we get ripped off in Australia. I have done a few comparisons with online shopping both here in Aus and UK. The prices I believe would be the same online as in store but cannot guarantee it. Please I urge you all to do a bit of research online and compare prices, we are still... getting ripped off even now the $ is above 92 us cents.
Dyson dc 15 vacum cleaner: UK $392 Sale price $339, Harvey Norman $999.
Sony blu ray player: UK $321, Harvey Norman $399.
Roche Performa nano diabetic glucose meter: UK $27, Australia $70.
I have looked up loads of products both in Aust, UK and USA and guess what? Australia comes first for being the most expensive. I can understand prices being slightly higher as we have a smaller population, most of the products are manufactered in china so delivery should be less as we are closer.

I much prefer cloth nappies. They are so easy to use and we save $$ using just 25 cloth nappies vs 5,000 disposables and the environment does not suffer www.eenee.com

the environment does not suffer *AS MUCH* - remember you still have to bleach them and wash them and you use water and power and some sort of cleaning products to do that. And then there is the tiny fact that some people have to leave their babies during the day to work - who wants to leave them in the evening as well to go wash nappies.

Frances Anne Henderson I like using mineral foundations - great for my skin.

CHOICE Mineral foundations promise a fresh, natural look and a product that's good for your skin. But our trial found many don't deliver the benefits promised and some also contain potentially dangerous nanoparticles. http://tinyurl.com/yz3akaa

Anthea Mulholland

Anthea Mulholland Has everyone else noticed that Cadbury have decided to reduce their small blocks of chocolate by 100gms yet we are not seeing a price reduction at all? Cadbury you are not Lindt you are ripping off the consumers who have supported you and why would I pay more for less. I'm looking for an alternative - any suggestions?

We've also noticed that some packaged foods have mysteriously shrunk. Look out for the results of our investigation soon.

I think that a lot of people do not realise what the food manufacturers get up to. Mars is a prime example of ripping us off with their excuse of wanting to help people loose weight by reducing the size of a Mars bar from 60gm to 53gm. When I sent them an email in regards to this their response basically said food costs had risen so rather than put... Read More the price up they would reduce the size. Confectionary is half the price in the UK so why is it so expensive here? A mars bar is around 45-50 pence (78 cents-87 cents au) in the UK compared to $1.75 here.

The petrol companies are up to their tricks again, now that the aussie $ is higher I wondered why the price of fuel hadn't come down. I checked the nrma petrol watch scheme and low and behold prices were an average of 112.2 in sydney today thurs...day which is supposed to be the dearest day to buy petrol. Here in Armid...ale the average price is 129.9 the highest of all on the nrma site funny really as we are only 4 to 5 cents more expensive than Sydney usually. Perhaps on Tuesday which is the cheapest day for fuel in Sydney we will be 30 cents more expensive here in Armidale. I dont know how the fuel companies get away with it especially saying fuel is more expensive on Thursday they would not get away with it in other countries.Read More

Dean Bailey It's amazing the price of Special K has come down to $6.59 in our local Coles. Some of you may recall that I emailed Coles a few weeks ago to advise that the weight had come down from 630gm to 600gms with no price reduction. People power thats what I say and the more of us that do it the more the supermarkets will realise that we cant be taken for fools.

What a great debate on SBS Insight the other night both on and off the screen. I was so glad to see the supermarkets getting what they deserve from the consumer a backlash. As for Dick Smith saying we should stick to Coles and Woolworths as we are not being Australian if we shop at Aldi, perhaps he would like to consid...er that the above supermarkets are not being Australian by over inflating prices and ripping us off. I suggest that people go and look at other countries supermarket online shopping and check out prices, I have an account with Tescos in the UK (just for price checking) and regularly check out the difference between Oz and the UK.Read More

Boy oh boy do we get ripped off not just with groceries but almost everything. I went to buy some Philips Extreme power bulbs for my car the other day they were $85 in Oz compared to $52 in the UK including postage to Oz. I’m really glad Richard Branson is opening up an insurance business here as that is a big rip off ...as well; its like most things in Oz, lots of smaller businesses have been taken over by the big corporations which means no competition. As we are so isolated the big corporations think we don’t know how they over inflate prices, thank god for the web as we have much more access to this info.Read More
