The Center for Progressive Leadership’s New Leaders Internship Program is a paid ten-week summer program in Washington D.C. for young people from underrepresented communities a...cross the country with a demonstrated passion for progressive change. Each New Leader is matched with a paid internship in a leading progressive organization in DC, including policy and research work, advocacy, organizing, media relations, and on-line communications. CPL New Leaders also participate in orientation and closing workshops, weekly trainings, coaching, and a variety of networking events, conferences and other opportunities.

CPL’s New Leaders Fellowship helps talented young people of color, women and LGBT youth who are looking for full-time employment jump-start their careers in the progressive movement.

During the six-month fellowship, diverse young leaders are matched with full-time, paid positions at leading progressive organizations. ... CPL provides leadership training, coaching and networking during the fellowship.

Qualified applicants will be matched with a leading progressive organization in Washington, D.C., based on their background and experience. During the Fellowship, Fellows will receive a full-time salary from the organization with which they are matched.

CPL New Leaders work at a variety of progressive organizations. Past placements have included Planned Parenthood Federation of America, National Partnership for Women and Families, Sierra Club, Democracy Alliance, SEIU, APIAVote, EMILY’s List and the Bonner Group.

New Leaders Fellows will receive ongoing support from CPL, including:

Leadership training and skill-building opportunities
Career coaching and mentoring from experienced progressive leaders
Networking opportunities with CPL’s alumni, partners and supporters
Fellowship candidates must be able to commit to the entire six-month fellowship program and be available for full-time work. Candidates are also required to participate in regularly scheduled trainings, coaching sessions and networking events as part of their fellowship.

Who Should Apply

Diverse individuals who are interested in jump-starting a lifelong career in progressive politics should consider applying. CPL will also be looking for individuals who are:

Committed to progressive political change
Have demonstrated leadership potential
Between 21-30 years old (in general, there may be exceptions)
Have no more than 2 years professional experience in progressive jobs
Looking for a job with a progressive organization
