Green Earth Travel Trip Highlights
Donate your kindness to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the country's largest no-kill refuge for abused and abandoned pets and explore Grand Canyon National Park or Bryce and Zion National Parks with national park travel specialists Adventure Bus. This unique getaway offers a chance to escape your hectic ...schedule and engage your heart while you help homeless animals and revel in beauty of the Southwest. This is truly a trip to warm your heart and thrill your senses!

On our June and October trip we have the honor of renowned scientist, animal activist and author of the best-selling book Pleasurable Kingdom: Animals and the Nature of Feeling Good.

Trip depart Las Vegas, NV
June 4-9 Best Friends Animal Sanctuary/Grand Canyon National Park
Aug 9-14 Best Friends Animal Sanctuary/Grand Canyon National Park
Oct 5-10 Best Friends Animal Sanctuary/Bryce and Zion National Park

Day 1
You will be picked up at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, NV and shuttled to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary by the Adventure Bus Travel Company. We'll get acquainted with each other over dinner and settle into our cozy cabins and cottages in beautiful Angel Canyon, part of the 3,000 + acres that make up Best Friends. You'll be able to watch the morning sun wash against the orange and red cliffs, thrill to clear blue-bird skies, and breathe in the beauty of this inspiring locale. A five minute stroll allows you to visit with the horses, goats, and perhaps the most entertaining guests at Best Friends, the pot bellied pigs!

Day 2
After breakfast, you'll spend the morning touring the facilities and getting your volunteering assignments. Enjoy a vegan/vegetarian lunch at the Angel Village Restaurant overlooking Angel Canyon with Best Friend staff members and other volunteers.

In the afternoon begin your work with the animals! Volunteer duties at Best Friends can include (but is not limited to) assisting with feeding, grooming, cleaning living areas, and walking or training those animals looking for adoptive homes. You may choose to work with cats, dogs, birds, horses, pigs and more! We will do our best to fulfill your request. The facilities at the sanctuary are impressive—there's none of the sadness that you might expect from an animal refuge. These dogs, cats, horses, bunnies, and birds all have great homes and loving companions working with them every day—and they can stay as long as they want. There's no time limit at Best Friends. Of course, the goal is to find every pet a forever home—some just take a little longer to find that perfect match. Working with the animals has recharged many a soul. Expect to feel the love and renew your sense of health and happiness.

You may have an option to take a cat or a dog back to your cottage/cabin for the evening. Arrangements for this will be made during the day. This is a great way to extend your volunteer time into the evening.

Day 3
Today you'll have two sessions of volunteering, a morning shift and an afternoon shift. You'll enjoy another lunch at the Best Friends Restaurant and have another chance to bring a dog or cat home for the evening. This evening we'll take time to go and visit a very special place at Best Friends, Angel's Rest.

Day 4
After breakfast we'll return our evening guests to their runs and check out at the Welcome Center. You'll have a chance to buy Best Friend Souvenirs. By mid morning we'll move on to the next part of our journey.... Grand Canyon! or Bryce and Zion Canyons! After two days of witnessing and participating incredible displays of human nature, it is time to let Mother Nature put on a show!

Day 4 (June 4-9 or August 9-14)
We'll travel to North Rim of the Grand Canyon and first enjoy a picnic lunch near a stunning view of the canyon. We'll then explore a few more vistas and short trails near the Cape Royal Area. In the late afternoon we'll settle into our campground, enjoy a delicious dinner, and watch the changing colors of the canyon during sunset. Evening activities may include a campfire under the stars or a ranger talk at the campground amphitheater.

Day 5 (June 4-9 or August 9-14)
Early risers will be rewarded with a stunning sunrise along the rim of the Grand Canyon. After a hearty breakfast we will prepare ourselves for the many options of the day. For those who like a big challenge, you can hike into the canyon on the North Kaibab Trail. This trail is very strenuous, but you can choose how far in you hike. You CANNOT reach the Colorado River in one day at North Rim, and it is not recommended that people hike past Roaring Springs in one day. Easier hiking options include the Bridle Trail, Transept Rim Trail, and Bright Angel Trail. Many free ranger programs are also available throughout the day.

Day 6 (June 4-9 or August 9-14)
After we break camp, we'll shuttle back to the Luxor in Las Vegas by 4PM.

Day 4 (Oct 5-10)
We'll depart Best friends after checking out of our cabins and cottages and enjoy a short ride to the East Entrance of Zion National Park. We'll stop for photo opps and exploration at a few of the major formations such as Checkerboard Mesa before traveling through the historic 1.1 mile Zion Tunnel into Zion Canyon. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch near the West Entrance of the park. Spend the afternoon exploring the canyon section of the park on the park's shuttle system. You may choose to do a few short hikes, take in the Museum or Visiter Center, or simply enjoy the guided shuttle ride. In the late afternoon we will regroup and head to our hotel, Flannigans Inn. We will have a gourmet dinner at the Spotted Dog Cafe at Flanigans Inn

Day 5 (Oct 5-10)

On our second day at Zion, we will meet up at 9am, pack up lunches to take with us before heading into the park. Perhaps you'll take in a longer hike today such as Angel's Landing, Emerald Pools, Observation Point or Hidden Valley.(See descriptions below) If hiking isn't your thing, you can also explore the quaint and picturesque town of Springdale, which also has a free shuttle. It is home to many galleries, gem shops, and cafes. Take in a Ranger program in Zion, or schedule a massage at our hotel. There is something for everyone! Dinner at the Spotted Dog Cafe.

Day 6 (Oct 5-10)
We'll pack up and checkout of our hotel by 11A and depart for Las Vegas.

All but two meals are included in your tour. All meals will be vegetarian with options for vegans as well. (14 meals)

(Cabin John, MD) – Green Earth Travel announces a new travel opportunity will enable animal lovers to both follow their passion taking care of needy animals and sample the beauty, glamour and trendiness of Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles. The trip to sunny Southern California September 1-6, 2009 blends diverse sightseeing, event-going and dining with two days of enjoyable volunteerism at peaceful Animal Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary.

“I am excited about this trip as one that will enable travelers to donate energy and love to animals living at Animal Acres and won’t stop there,” comments Donna Zeigfinger, founder and CEO of Green Earth Travel. “They will then play tourist without the hassle of dealing with LA traffic, and enjoy glamour of Hollywood celebrity at the Animal Acres annual Celebrity Gala.”
“This trip is the first of its kind at Animal Acres,” notes Leighann Hessler, Youth Program Coordinator and primary contact for the trip, “thanks to the connection made by our Executive Director Lori Bauston and Green Earth Travel. This unique group of travelers will be helping us pursue our mission by caring for our animals, and will then reap the benefits of their volunteered labor by attending the heartfelt, celebrity-studded Gala.”
Each package includes ground transportation from the airport to Animal Acres, five nights’ accommodation in Valencia, breakfast daily, lunches and dinners on volunteer days, sightseeing and admissions courtesy of California Tour Consultants and a ticket to the Animal Acres Celebrity Gala. Trip fare will feature gourmet vegetarian food.
This trip is one of Green Earth Travel’s offerings for 2009 that encourages volunteer vacationers to take care of themselves, as well. “I am excited about our trips that combine these features, for we all should take time to enjoy the scenery,” notes Zeigfinger.

Travelers Pampering Pets Will Receive a Pat on the Back: Better Yet, a Massage
Spa Delights Follow Volunteer Duties in Desert Splendor

(Cabin John, MD) – A new Green Earth Travel 2009 trip will rewards animal shelter volunteers with adventure spa treats and treatments in dramatic Southern Utah October 6-11, 2009.

Green Earth Travel will lead a group to a spa retreat located within Zion National Park after caring for homeless pets at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, the third Best Friends partnership in 2009. Travelers will spend two full days and an extra morning caring for animals and two days at Flanigan’s Inn where they can spend time in spa treatments, yoga and Pilates classes, and guided hikes or spiritual healing activities.

“We have had great success with trips that give hard working shelter volunteers an opportunity to reward themselves physically and emotionally,” notes Donna Zeigfinger, Green Earth Travel, LLC Founder and CEO. “We are excited about showing clients something new when they complete their chores, the grandeur of Zion National Park and the relaxing atmosphere at Flanigan’s Inn.”

Lori Bernath, Best Friends Cause Marketing Specialist, notes that guests will be allowed to take an animal “home” to their cottage or cabin during their stay. She lightly cautions guests, “Travelers beware: sleepovers have been known to result in adoptions!” She welcomes guests with particular enthusiasm as Best Friends celebrates their twenty-fifth anniversary.

Transportation includes transfers from Las Vegas to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, then on to Flanigan’s Inn and back to Las Vegas.

Green Earth Travel This month we want to talk to you about Adventure travel as well as volunteering vacations. They do go hand and hand.

While volunteer vacations are great, travelers should take care of themselves and enjoy the scenery, as well. I truly believe that giving back while vacationing is not just a trend. It is the wave of ...the future.

Best Friends Trip still has some space left.

As someone who is now part-time caregiver for my father's dog Rudy, I now know what the meaning of joy and silliness is. I now also know the meaning of horrible puppy mills. You see Rudy was a rescue from a puppy mill. Best Friends in Kanab Utah animals come asituations all the time. And they need us to come out and help them. Then once we are finished we get to relax in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! While the August trip is sold out there is still space left for the May trip.

Green Earth Travel Hurry! there are only 7 spots left on the May trip. August is sold out!
(Cabin John, MD) – Green Earth Travel has announced two trips to Southern Utah and the Grand Canyon that offer a unique experience for animal lovers: the satisfaction and grit of volunteerism topped with the exploration of adventurous, educational a...nd entertaining locales.

Green Earth Travel has added camping on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River to two days meeting and caring for homeless pets at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah May 26-31 and August 10-15, 2009. In this second year partnering with Best Friends, time spent with the animals increases two days and includes an option to take care of a dog overnight.

“I am excited about doing these trips because I have always had an affinity for animals and wanted to help them in any way,” notes Donna Zeigfinger, Green Earth Travel, LLC Founder and CEO. “While volunteer vacations are great, travelers should take care of themselves and enjoy the scenery, as well. I truly believe that giving back while vacationing is not just a trend. It is the wave of the future.”

Past participants give high marks to Green Earth Travel. 73 year-young Pat Doumas had wanted to visit Best Friends but does not drive. Having the logistics taken care of was the way to go and volunteered, “I’d like to go back again!” Wisconsin native and professional comedienne Lang Parker wanted to “give back, somewhere” and this trip was a good value compared to international trips. “I really got something out of it. I grew up with animals and I really enjoyed taking care of them, putting my face up to theirs.”

Trips include meals, camping gear and transfers from Las Vegas to Best Friends, continuing to the North Rim and back to Las Vegas with home-on-wheels buses from the Adventure Bus Company. Trip fare will feature gourmet vegetarian food.
