Government policy. Adam McHenry of Cadman Homes said he is worried about the increasing number of tenants on housing benefit that ...cannot get accommodation. He believes this is due to new housing benefit laws launched last year. His views are backed by homeless charity Crisis, which is worried that the plans will put more people on the streets. The rules have changes so that benefit money goes traight to the tenants and not the landlord, as was previously the case. This has put many landlords off offering affordable housing, as they claim the money is not getting to them. “The new law is having a serious effect on the tenants,” said Mr.McHenry. “They are meant to be helping them but in fact they are doing them a disservice. “We have many people on housing benefits who come into our
business and we do not have anything to give them.” Mr. McHenry has now launched a petition that will go to the Government, and hopes other estate agents, tenants and members of the public will back it. He believes the rules should be changed so that the money will go towards either the tenant or the landlord via an agreement between the two. His views are also backed by Mark Pawsey, ugby’s
