Cafe Poets
Profile of Fiona McIIroy.
Born 1947 in Melbourne, I have travelled widely, with a micro-climatologist father who went to arid places like Arizona and Egypt. After studying language, literature and philosophy, I moved bush. Twenty-two years in far East Gippsland developing an intentional community called Warm
Corners Co-...op, and three children later, I moved to Canberra for children's high schooling.
In my community sector roles, I became known as the community poet who could never resist placing verse in the newsletters as well as prose.
In 2000, I joined my mother May Cecily Wright, sister-in-law Deb Foskey and sister Fran McIlroy in publishing a poetry collection titled: Warm Corners (Gininderra Press). As a teacher of all ages, community edeucator, workshop leader and life coach, I enjoy encouraging others to realise their potential. The Australian landscape is a deep sorce of nourishment and inspiration, as evident in the recent book of poetry titled: Taste of a Poem:
(Ginninderra Press) The poems take heart from a love of life and the earth in all its awesome beauty. Social comment and satire are another element of my poetry. Being resident poet in a cafe is my natural habitat when not at the Bowen Creek.

Cafe Poets Graham Nunn features three fellow Cafe Poets on his blog - Josephine Rowe, Amelia Walker and Lara Taylor. Longer profiles and some writing featured.

Cafe Poets
Lara Taylor won her first poetry comp at age 9 with a poem entitled ‘My Horrible Brother’. Her style hasn’t changed much since then; she enjoys a simple childlike use of words to explore complex human themes. In 2006 she won The Literary Prize for a performance at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta for her poem ‘I am ...looking at the Masses’, an exploration into human pain and the search for meaning. Recent titles include ‘The Flippy Floppy Bunny Rabbit’, ‘The Very Sad Poem’, a comical piece about her desire to have a more elegant vocabulary and ‘From Hiam to Lebanon and Back’. Travel with her on a journey which may be deep and profound or comically ludicrous. Her work stirs the emotions and can move an audience to stillness. Lara names Dr Seuss, Shakespeare, Hemingway and Blyton as writers who have inspired, as well as her own life experiences and the mothering of two lovely boys.
Lara writes at the Mortdale Grind Cafe in Mortdale, Sydney.
