In the days just before the Great Depression, the temperance movement co-existed uneasily with the glamour of the Roaring Twenties. Speakeasies made a mockery of Prohibition laws, thriving behind locked doors in grimy alleys. If you possessed the right password - you could enter a private world of guilty pleasures, gua...rded by gangsters, where flappers scandalized society with the Charleston, and bathtub gin came in coffee cups.
On January 30, 2010, plan to "go see a man about a dog" and rub shoulders with some "big cheeses". It'll be the "cat's pyjamas" and the "bees knees" all rolled into one fabulous evening of jazz era excess.
But be warned. You'll need your password to get in.
