It's estimated that around 4 million Americans are infected with Hepatitis C, a viral infection that attacks and can eventually destroy the liver. In many cases there are no warning signs or symptoms until the disease is far advanced. Because of that many people who are infected don't even know it.
Dr. Robert Gish, Me...dical Director of the Liver Transplant Program and Chief of the Division of Hepatology and Complex Gastroenterology at CPMC in San Francisco, recently went on the Andrea Garrison show to talk about the disease, who is at risk, and its treatments.

California Pacific Medical Center The San Francisco Food Bank is such an important part of our community, providing much needed food for people in need. This year, with so many people out of work demand for the Food Bank's help is greater than ever. At the same time donations are down. That's why CPMC was delighted to be able to donate $17,500 to the F...ood Bank on Monday, November 9th. Each dollar donated helps buy $4 worth of food for hungry individuals and families, so they know how to make the most out of every single cent. In addition a group of CPMC employees donated their afternoons to helping out at the Food Bank. In just a few hours we boxed up 3,000 pounds of apples and 1,200 pounds of rice; enough food to feed 6,000 individuals. It was a great way to spend a few hours, and made everyone feel that they were doing something worthwhile. The Food Bank is always looking for volunteers so if you are interested go to www.sffoodbank.org. It's a great way to help someone this holiday season.

From everyone at CPMC, congratulations to the HealthFirst team.

California Pacific Medical Center Hurray for humanity - particularly Habitat for Humanity. Members of our CPMC team had a great time helping our wonderful colleague Natasya at the site of her new home in East Oakland. It was fun, but we definitely need to keep our day jobs!
