On October 28, CDPH and Fresno WIC staff came together to celebrate the arrival of the new WIC foods. They were joined by local chef, Garrett Henderson, from Slates Restaurant to show Californians how they can prepare healthy recipes using fresh fruits and vegetables. This event included a cooking demonstration, a farm...er’s market, and several information booths from the WIC Program and the Network for a Healthy California-Central Valley Region. PHFE WIC legislative ambassadors had the pleasure of meeting with Congresswoman Judy Chu (D32) at the Baldwin Park WIC Center on Monday 10/19/09. Congresswoman Chu was able to see our user-friendly WIC services in action, as well as, hear the latest issues affecting the 50,000+ WIC moms and babies living in her distric...t, especially the rollout of the WIC new foods and the excitement it has generated among the entire community (WIC families, WIC stores, WIC staff, the media, etc.). A historic shift occurred in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program on Oct. 1.
California WIC Association From PHFE's Shelly Lewis: On the way to San Pedro, I drove past Wilmington and the Sara Lee bread truck was parked in front of the Mommy's WIC-only store. Sara Lee has really worked hard on positioning themselves for WIC business from redesigning their factory line to produce 1 pound loaves to delivery trucks rolling up to point of sale on day 4. Smart!

WIC Participant/Employee Angelina Lopez reported to Shelly Lewis of PHFE about her positive shopping experience at San Pedro Vons with her new checks. She found all the products (she's exclusively breastfeeding!) and the cashier was so excited to process the new checks that she called a co-worker over to watch!
