WIC stores undergo healthy makeover : The WIC federal nutrition program has just undergone a makeover, and vouchers are now good for fresh produce and healthy foods. This switch has put thousands of WIC-certified stores through some changes of their own. Rachel Dornhelm reports.

STOCKTON - In a small classroom on California Street last week, educator Olivia Millan told more than a dozen mothers about changes she said would help them buy a wider variety of healthier foods with their Women, Infants and Children vouchers.

On October 28, CDPH and Fresno WIC staff came together to celebrate the arrival of the new WIC foods. They were joined by local chef, Garrett Henderson, from Slates Restaurant to show Californians how they can prepare healthy recipes using fresh fruits and vegetables. This event included a cooking demonstration, a farm...er’s market, and several information booths from the WIC Program and the Network for a Healthy California-Central Valley Region. California WIC Association From PHFE's Shelly Lewis: On the way to San Pedro, I drove past Wilmington and the Sara Lee bread truck was parked in front of the Mommy's WIC-only store. Sara Lee has really worked hard on positioning themselves for WIC business from redesigning their factory line to produce 1 pound loaves to delivery trucks rolling up to point of sale on day 4. Smart!
