MIT Museum Still wrangling with photos for our new exhibit, Sampling MIT. Exhibiting ongoing scientific research is not exactly the same thing as working with paintings that originated hundreds of years ago. Our objects are still in the lab being tinkered with!

we have people from about 8th grade to the over 80 crowd at our programs. the soap box programs (not yet scheduled for the fall) are not family programs; usually people over 18 - depending on your interest in the subject. people ask a lot of questions and we save time for the back and forth.

How is privacy being redefined in the new digital era of ubiquitous information and constant surveillance? The exhibition Connections (through Sept. 13) was conceived from research done by the Sociable Media Group at the MIT Media Lab, and includes the dynamic new installation, Metropath(ologies). In a world overflowi...ng with information and non-stop communication this modular and interactive exhibition poses the question of how people's notions of privacy have changed the context of hyper-connected and hyper-aware real and virtual spaces. Where is the line between privacy and transparency in this new age? How have these issues affected the way people live in and think about their communities?

MODERATOR
Jonathan Zittrain, co-founder of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

Portraits depict something essential about a person, usually by delineating the subject’s physical appearance. With the Data Portraits series, in the new exhibition Connections (through Sept. 13) the Sociable Media Group explores a different approach, portraying people by expressively rendering their online interaction...s and data about them. Join Sociable Media Group director Judith Donath and graduate student Alex Dragulescu in discussing what portraiture can become in the 21st century, and the ways in which the medium of portraiture itself are changing.
