Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance will be holding our annual Fun Walk this year on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Terry Hershey Park (15200 Memorial Drive). After the walk we will have a post walk celebration with food, music, face painters and other fun! And in a special celebration, thi...s year, we will have a balloon release in honor of a child who has or had childhood cancer and in support of all the families on their cancer journey.

All the funds raised from the Fun Walk will be used to support families at a Weekend Family Camp - "Camp CLIFF" in October at Camp For All in Brenham, Texas. This is a unique camp that includes the entire family, providing a weekend away from cancer. The days are spent celebrating being together and having fun!

There are several ways for you to be included in the Fun Walk:

* Take a leadership role: Become a Team Captain, set a goal, recruit 10 walkers, who then collect a $100 in donations and join us at the walk on Saturday, September 20, 2008. All walkers who raise $100 or more will get a walk t-shirt.

* Be a Fun Walk Sponsor. This is a great marketing opportunity for any company. If you are interested in finding out more about how to be a sponsor, please let Candlelighters know as soon as possible to be included in all Fun Walk marketing materials.

* Make a donation: Support the Candlelighters team by writing a check payable to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance and mail it to the office. (8323 Southwest Freeway, Ste. 435 Houston, TX 77074) or Go on-line to www.candle.org, click on Donate and then under Event Donation click on Fun Walk-Donation. You can even list what team you are making the donation for – it’s that simple!

* Walk in honor of a child with cancer and in support of all the families on their cancer journey. We will also be holding a balloon release at the walk this year in honor of these very special and courageous children.

* Walk on the Candlelighters Team: Collect pledges, share the camaraderie and feel great knowing that you are helping families who are touched by childhood cancer! Remember, you can walk in honor of a child.

* Volunteer to register, set up, assist walkers, clean up, have fun!

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance provides emotional, educational, and practical support to children with cancer and their families in the 13 counties of the greater Houston area. They have direct access to childhood cancer families at Texas Children’s Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center, where thousands of children are on treatment or follow-up care due to a childhood cancer diagnosis. Candlelighters currently serves between 800 and 1100 families each month and that number continues to grow.
