15 days to go to vote on the historic sites that you think should be preserved! You can vote for up to 3 sites a day at http://www.rockbarn.org/sitesworthsaving /. Your votes will choose the 3 sites that the Historical Society will focus on during the coming year. The Etowah Elementary School currently has 104 votes ...and is running a tight race for 5th place. This was the first school built in the state (circa 1934-35) with laborers paid by the Works Progress Administration. This school for grades 1 - 9 was a consolidation of the older Creighton and Oakland Schools of the Creighton-Hightower Community. The current threat to the building is neglect, and because it is not easily accessible, it is unclear whether the building is currently occupied. Possible solutions include working with the owner to make necessary repairs and maintenance. If the owner is interested in selling the property, help find a preservation-minded buyer.
