The 2:1 degree: no longer compulsory for all graduate jobs
The 2:1 degree may no longer be compulsory for all graduate jobs. It appears that more graduate employers are becoming prepared to consider well-rounded applicants with 2:2s, as they look to ‘widen their talent pool.’
New AGR research shows that:
the percentage of... employers asking for a 2.1 minimum has fallen from 64 to 57%
those actually accepting a 2:2 rose to 32.9% compared with 24.7% last year- employers are instead looking for specific degree subjects and/or work experience/skills
the new average salary for first-graduate-jobbers is £24,500
each graduate vacancy received between 31-112 applications
Quote Carl GillIard, CEO of the AGR:
"I think employers feel that the salaries are quite respectable anyway and basically they are counting the pennies and they don't see a great necessity to increase salaries."

Last year, students borrowed around £4 billio...n- up 32% on the year before.
Quote the president of the NUS: "It is worrying when public policy is in essence creating a generation who is clocking up a significant amount of debt.”
In addition, the government are to proceed with plans to axe the £100 million-a-year given to around 170,000 students who take a second degree or shorter professional course.
