Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower is an announced Republican candidate for the 11th District Congressional seat. Having served as a two term conservative voice and former Vice-Mayor on Ashevilles city council, Mumpower is a persisting voice of reason and governmental restraint in his home city. He attracts support from both sides of the political spectrum due to his emphasis on fairness and consistent principled service. Councilman Mumpower is married, has two grown children and two grandchildren, and is a life long resident of WNC. Mumpower upholds a private psychology practice in Asheville and serves on various boards and commissions devoted to drug interventions, improving public housing, honoring veter! ans, and meeting the needs of children. Known for his candor and courage in refusing to step away from hard issues, Mumpower indicates that his campaign approach will be simple - "I want people to know my name, that I am running for Congress, and where I authentically stand on the issues - they will take things from there."

Does the email contact still work considering the recent fight?

Why do I know this? I live in Maryland. I don't even know anyone in North Carolina! I need to find better things to do with my time...

VICTORY IS CLOSING IN TIME IS RUNNING OUT

Yesterday a 2nd reading of the bill was done in session and a third was opposed. and the Bill will be back in session today. If passed it will move to the Senate and hopefully pass as well.

Rep Cole has said he would pull the bill if any changes are made, so our plan is to encourage the passage of what we have as it is written.

The bill is not even close to what we want but it does say that NC will not participate in the Real ID and that the State will not provide any funds for the program.

What this bill will do if passed will bring us National Media and state media attention. Just the passage of the committee made statewide news. This will be FREE PUBLICITY to our cause and help us gain more members so when the Legislature meets again in 2009 we can have an even greater impact on the Legislators.

Having a bill passed that says the state will not participate in the Real ID will also give us a foundation to build on when we work to get wha
