Great comments, thank you for them. As to your first concern, I get very nervous when talking about increasing taxes on business and industry. First of all companies produce jobs and product which benefit all of us. We SHOULD reward innovation and remove blocks from people and companies who wish to produce.
The other reason I oppose removing these tax-breaks are similar to why I oppose increasing the minimum wage. Big Businesses do NOT pay taxes in the same manner as citizens. Lets use the 7-11 as our example business. If we remove whatever tax exemptions they may have, the price of a slurpee will go up to cover those costs. Just as if we interfere in business/employee contracts and raise the minimum wage, the extra costs are passed onto the citizens. ... Read More
To your second issue. I would need more information on what government supported groups you are speaking of. However, if you are talking in any way about socialist type programs, I oppose them all.
Your last point is very well thought out, thank you. Just because we stop funding local schools O & M and Capital facilities with the property tax, does not mean they can not "secure" bonds with property. The state does this sometimes when we bond for roads. The bonds are sometimes secured with the property tax, although paid for by other means. Does that make sense?
If we did this, there would be little to no difference in the bond interest rate. I hope I explained that ok. Let me know.
