Carpinteria

Carpinteria the fresh snow dusting on the mountain tops is always an impressive view from Carpinteria. Anyone take any good photos this week that they would like to share?

No photo, but I walked on Rincon Beach yesterday ane it was awesome, magical, so beautiful! I got pretty see items, too....it had been a long time. I feel so silly being as I live in a beach town and don't get to it often enough. That will change! Like a huge wave , I have seen the light!

Thats a sad commentary, I too grew up in Carpinteria, a beautiful beautiful beach. I seldom got to see it and play in the water. Do it while you can because one day you may not get to.

Carpinteria What are we going to do about a hardware store in Carpinteria? We need a real one. Ideas? Who is working on this?

I would absoultly love to have a Trader Joe's........but Carpinteria really needs a hardware store... small town or not. I (and many other people I know) don't like to have to drive to Ventura or Santa Barbara. We don't need a big hardware store... just something small or family owned.

Lisa if you compared the year you lived there to the earlier years you might have a different view of Carp. It really is still quaint and charming in comparison to other cities but it isn't as quaint and charming as the years early than the earlier 80's or before. I am loving the good old days!!!!

Its a shame that until one moves away from Carpinteria, that you realize you were actually living in Paradise.

Carpinteria Went down to the "sidewalk sale." Walked on the sidewalk and bought stuff on sale. I guess that is what it means.

YES! My friend's (Theresa Clement) parents (owned) ran it. It was right on the Dunes. They also rented out and sold beach supplies. I've not heard anyone else mention this before. I'm glad to be able to share the memory of it with you. It was elevated, a weathered grey wooden building with a porch. They served fountain drinks, I think, soda pop in bottles as well as snacks. I loved it. The dunes still were rounded and had sea grass and native birds and other animals living on them. It was beautiful. It was torn down to make way for the 3-story white building to the right of the current beach side parking lot.

Where did you live when you first came to Carp? My family moved into the brand new Carpinteria Park tract on Arbol Verde at the "T" intersection of Fiesta Drive. It was (one of the) first completed house. The property occupied land which had previously been tomato fields, which natives were quick to point out. There were fewer that 8,000 inhabitants of Carp at that time. Carp Park backed up to the lemon orchard, the beautiful, historic Victorian Higgins (Wardell) home, and the little Motel out on Carp Ave. These places were the homes of my best friends.

We had direct access to the Bluffs, Tarpitz, Jelly Bowl, and to both of the piers: Chevron and Carpinteria piers. Went to the beach every day. It was a wonderful life!... See More

I'm surprised anyone remembered the Debus' owned the Spot. That was years ago. And Joanne (Thompson) is my mom and my parents, Cal and Joan(ne) were co-owners...the good old days in Carp.

Hey MsJulie...don't be surprised anyone remembers the old locals and the history in Carp My family history in Carp goes back 8 generations. That was back in the day where everyone's family knew who everyone was. My parents would tell me when I would go "up town" as a teen, "you better behave because by the time you come home I already know what you have been doing and who you've been talking too" LOL crazy huh. My family still live on Santa Monica rd. Yup we are as local as they come.
