University of North Carolina Men's Crew

Sagar Sudhakar Prabhu

Sagar Sudhakar Prabhu Hi, so is this the varsity team or more of an intermural team? And is there like a lightweight team, cause I gotta admit, I'm like 98 lbs and not extremely strong. I also don't have any experience.

The crew operates as a club team. There is no varsity team, so we compete at the highest level for UNC, against other club and varsity programs across the country. We do have a lighweight team, and at 98 lbs, you may even want to consider being a coxswain. Just come out to any of our interest meetings over the next week and we'll answer any questions you may have.

As long as you still have college rowing eligibility left, then you are more than welcome to row with us. There is no age restriction. So long as you are a student and you don't mind hanging out with some freshman, then you can definitely row with us!

Jordan Wille

Jordan Wille I cant seem to find any lightweight mens rowing on your site or here. Is there? If so, what type of program?

we had a varsity lightweignt 8 for the first time in several years last season. They had some success, and at one point were ranked as one of the top LW8s in the country. We do not have a separate lightweight program, but we do race lightweight boats depending on the number of lightweight rowers we have. Are you looking to transfer to Carolina?

Hi Suzanne, sorry for the slow response. As of right now, the crew does not host any summer clinics for high school rowers. It is something we are hoping to do in the future though. We have even considered hosting a high school regatta in the fall. If you are in Chapel Hill this summer and would like to check out our facilities, then contact novice coach Trent Johnson at tojohnson@gmail.com.

University of North Carolina Men's Crew Justin,
The varsity team will be practicing in the erg room at 4pm on the 13th. I will forward along your message to our head coach and I'm sure he would be glad to let you tag along. I think the 13th might be a 2k test actually...those are always fun.

Justin Rau

Thank you very much,

University of North Carolina Men's Crew Matthew, I just sent you an e-mail, and i will double-check the link on the site as well, thanks for the heads-up!

Matthew Lei

Matthew Lei I was just wondering how I send this to recruiting b/c the link to the mail on the site isn't working.

Matthew Lei

Matthew Lei
Hi,

My name is Matthew Lei and I am attending East Greenwich High School, Rhode Island. I have rowed for the past three years at a local boathouse (Narragansett Boat Club in Providence, RI on the Seekonk River). I am currently the captain of the men's four team at my school and I am also a co-founder of the EG Men Crew... Team. My unofficial urg time since 2 years ago was a 7:15 for a 2k. Also our team has won first in novice 4 at the Head of the Housatonic, 2nd at Novice 8 at the Head of the Fish and we have competed at the Head of the Textile. Also we've competed at our local NBC Regatta where our mixed 8 came in 3rd with master mixed eights competing. I just love the comradery that comes along with the sport and I just love the water. UNC Chapel Hill is one of my top choices and if I'm accepted I would love to row on the crew team for all four years. Also I'm 5' 9" 150lbs so I'm aiming for light weight 8's or 4's. Thank-you

Sincerely,
Matthew Lei

Can anyone give me his e-mail? If I need to be talking to someone else, who should I be talking to? Also, can I get their contact information? Thanks
