Big Red Cats - Kieren and Bob are heading to Reno to the annual Far West Ski Association meeting. Should be fun. We will be at the Peppermill Resort and Casino on Friday and Saturday. Work will beging in the bush next week. We have a 3-4 month long campaign planned...

Just a quick note. We just got back from our holiday to find that I was accepted as a professional member of the Canadian Avalanche Association. This is the highest qualification in Canada at present. It also requires a high level of professionalism and ongoing professional development...

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC Thinking of starting a Gap year program to train people to become ski Guides - If anyone is interested send me an e-mail and i will send some details. Kieren ski@bigredcats.com

Here is a shot of one of the aspects of the new mountain that we plan on opening for 2009/10. This is the east aspect. The North aspect is a 120ft cliff! with some skiable chutes. The south is open and cruisey. The west is good tree skiing...

Spent yesterday in Rogers Pass - was a great experience. The objective was to see some new terrain and do some training for my final ski guide exams. I caught up with Rob Elliot - a Local of Revelstoke and a great guide who works with Big Red Cats. Here are some Photo's of some of our turns.

Will Pursell caught this great shot of RipCurl athlete Jen McGoldrick catching some air (it was a very soft landing), during a bluebird powder day at Big Red Cats, March 2009.

This photo of RipCurl athlete Jen McGoldrick shows some of the lovely views and fresh snow at Big Red Cats. Jen came out with photographer Will Pursell in early March - the next photo will show Jen in action, but I really liked the scenery in this shot..

Kieren and Ari went up for a ski today and reported that it is really good skiing, still snowing, and that it would be worth taking groups out cat skiing this weekend... Who's in?

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC If you have a group that is ready to go as soon as we have a decent dump in the fall that is worth skiing on, let us know, we'll give you a great "beta tester" deal and we'll get out there and put some cat roads in. Same thing goes for a big spring dump, but I think we're closed for the season, as the driving range is now open.

It's been really warm around here lately and we aren't operating for the next little while, maybe not until next year, in fact. If it freezes up again, the snow will be pretty solid, so we'd need a good dump of snow on top to make it worthwhile...

Cat skiing and boarding at Big Red Cats at Rossland BC, 5 March 2009

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC Looks like we're shutting down for the season, despite excellent conditions at the moment. If you have $2500 we can spark up a cat for you this weekend..

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC 40cm dump and still dumping - standby seats available: $299 for one, $250 if in group of 4, $199 if you bring a full cat. It's just too good not to!

Woke to the sound of avi bombing at Red today, so I knew that there was a bit of a dump overnight. Looks like 18-20cm of fresh, with some serious wind transport, so some spots will have seriously deep snow pillows while other spots will be wind-scoured...

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC The conditions are great, and we just have lots of empty seats. Next weekend should be outstanding, and no bookings at all then, so bring a full cat and enjoy

The conditions are the best they've been all year, and we only have 2 weeks left on the schedule, so get out here for your last Kick at the Cat! EVERY remaining seat is now on sale at the standby rate of only C$299, so there is NO excuse not to call and book.

Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC is enjoying some of the best conditions of the season

Lots of fresh tracks, plenty of fresh snow lately, and our elevation is just high enough that it's all snow is our tenure area, while the bottom half of the resort got rain. So if it is looking a little soggy, don't panic - just drive up the hill...

It snowed! It is snowing! It is snowing even more tonight! And we have standby seats - if you don't book them all, I am DEFINITELY skiing tomorrow myself...

Forecast says 20-30cm between Sunday and Wednesday. Probably more like 20cm, but we'll see how it goes; it's a nice Pineapple Express, and they can come in heavier sometimes. Still, 20cm is better than we've had in the last month or so, so I'm happy with it...

Let's be honest - it isn't waist-deep pow, but it is still ten times better than the resorts, you're still making fresh tracks in soft boot-deep snow, and the guests are still coming back happy...
