Catholic World Report Thomas S. Hibbs on the religious art of Caravaggio: "Caravaggio blends a distinctive and readily identifiable personal style of painting with subject matters of universal and lasting import. His religious art is decidedly Catholic and counter-reformational in its sacramental realism."

Catholic World Report Anne Hendershott reports that Marquette University's decision this spring to withdraw an offer to Jodi O'Brien, a self-described "sexuality scholar," to become dean of the College of Arts and Sciences continues to divide the faculty of the Jesuit-led institution. O'Brien's supporters maintain that she is a victim of ho...mophobia. Her critics say that it is not her sexual orientation that disqualifies her, but the fact that her publications disparage Catholic moral teachings.

The most troubling and longstanding problem raised by organ transplantation has involved altering the very definition of death, since to transplant a vital organ, the donor’s organs must still be alive.

Catholic World Report Historians one day may judge the abuse committed during Msgr. Bernard Prince's priesthood to be the worst of the clerical scandals of the late 20th century, not because of the number of his victims (though he has been convicted of molesting 13 boys, with 10 more cases in litigation), but because - according to a recent...ly discovered letter written by a bishop - Prince continued for more than a decade in a prestigious Vatican post after two cardinals, and perhaps five other bishops, knew he had been credibly accused of sexual abuse.

          • Meg Graham Jaworowski This is gut wrenching and heart breaking. The sense of betrayal from Bishops and Cardinals at the Vatican is surely Hell rattling the gates to their foundations. God Help us, since we have not been able to clean it up ourselves.

          • Karen Hanegan
According to G. K. Chesterton, and another author of today, over the 2,000 year history of the church they saw and defined five different periods during which the church fell into decline and one of the results was rampant abuse by the cler...gy, ignored by their superiors. Each time the church sprang back stronger than ever.

I believe that revolution back to a cleaner, more orthodox church began with Pope Paul II, and Pope Benedict has vigorously grabbed the reins and is pulling harder to bring the church back into conformity.

It still is a tragedy that these kinds of scandals occurred in the recent past, and I feel so sorry for the victims.
