For World AIDS Day the Washington Post “On Faith” section published an essay I wrote at their request. To see it, click: http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfai th/guestvoices/2009/11/thanking_god_for_ condoms.html or see the pdf version attached. Not everyone approved of my Washington Post piece for World AIDS D...ay. You can read the comments included on the Post website or you might be interested in seeing this link, which calls me a Methodist AIDS maven (a Yiddish term which could either mean “expert” or “freak”!) and a “dithering” Christian! I have been called a lot of things over the years, but I must say these are new!http://www.catholicculture.org/commentar y/otr.cfm?id=5164

Center for Church and Global AIDS Happy "END" World AIDS Day! Let today be a day you do one thing that will help end HIV/AIDS. We have had many people fill out the "Tell Us About Yourself" form, we have had people donate, and we have had people purchase books, three of many ways to help! www.churchandglobalaids.org

Center for Church and Global AIDS World AIDS Day approaches Dec. 1. I will be in Nashville speaking on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. (Upper Room Chapel) and then in Chicago for "A Day of Hope" on Saturday. In between are various meetings and interviews connected with the book, 52 Ways to Create an AIDS Free World. I'm just back from two weeks in India and ...Sri Lanka. Powerful experience as I met with persons infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Center for Church and Global AIDS Donald E. Messer, author of "52 Ways to Create An AIDS-Free World" (Fresh Air Books, 2009) offers a 53rd way! (Please check locally to make sure the time listed is correct.)

Article was published in the UM Report - about the UM Report:
The United Methodist Reporter is an independent weekly newspaper for United Methodists and other people of faith, produced by UMR Communications in Dallas, Texas.
Our mission to provide readers with news, features and commentary about United Methodism that aff...ects the person in the pew. We strive to tell stories of faith that encourage United Methodists as well as challenge them to consider their role in the denominational connection and the larger community of faith. Not all United Methodists think alike; therefore we do not seek to present any particular agenda, but instead strive for a balanced presentation of issues that are of interest to our diverse audience.

"It's easy to assume it's all up to the scientists and doctors and people infected. But it's not. For us to have an HIV and AIDS free world, it's going to take you and me.

Center for Church and Global AIDS You can help by sponsoring scholarships and providing assistance with other expenses, as this controversial issue does not easily get funded. Most Christians, if concerned about AIDS, primarily want to fund orphans. Hopefully this conference will provide another vision and voice for Christians, particularly as we meet... on the eve of World AIDS Day with theme of "Universal Access and Human Rights."
