
Center for Land-Based Learning SLEWS program worked with Christian Brothers High School students on a very cool technique for streambank stabilization. The NRCS "bioengineering" practice involves installing willow bundles that will act as living structures to protect the bank from erosion while also providing wildlife habitat! Center for Land-Based Learning had a great day last week with students from Esparto High School at the McCloskey project! We installed irrigation, collected mulefat and cottonwood cuttings, and learned some interesting things about these plants we did not know before...

Center for Land-Based Learning Fresno FARMS students spent a day along the San Joaquin River at Scout Island participating in ROPES challenge course activities. They learned teambuilding and leadership skills as well as personally challenging themselves on the climbing wall, zip line and cargo net.

Center for Land-Based Learning Today's Peregrine School preschool group coming to the Farm cancelled...it's pretty rainy and cold...but the Jr. High students from Winters (the new Winters RISE after school program) are still coming this afternoon to make worm boxes in the barn! Yay for the barn!

Center for Land-Based Learning Sacramento Valley FARMS students visited the UC Davis Student Farm yesterday (we love the Farm!) and started planning their Community Action Projects. Next field day is "A Day in the Life of a California Farmworker" in December.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Tristesse Jones will probably never drive a tractor or guide a combine through rows of soybeans at harvest time.

Center for Land-Based Learning Heading to Vallejo to seed native grass at Hann's Park with Jesse Bethel HS kids. The area they'll be seeding was burned by an arson fire and needs some erosion control and native habitat enhancement.
