Central City Opera (CCO) and the University of Colorado (CU) Opera Studies program present performances of opera scenes throughout the state as part of Central City Opera’s 13 th annual tour of Colorado this fall kicking off Nov. 6 and running through Nov. 14.
“Opera Rocks the Rockies” is a 90 minute concert with inte...rmission featuring staged scenes from the operas being presented by Central City Opera in 2010 including Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and Heggie’s Three Decembers , as well as selections from Ned Rorem’s Our Town, Mozart’s Don Giovanni (on CU’s 2010 performance schedule) and others. Performing for student and community audiences are members of Central City Opera’s 2009 Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Artists Training Program, soprano Claire Kuttler; mezzo soprano Amanda Russo; tenor, James Baumgardner (also a student in the CU Opera Theatre program); and baritone, Jonathan Cole. Recognized as one of the most effective and competitive career-entry training programs in the country, CCO’s Artists Training Program has earned international renown. Graduate and doctoral level students in CU’s Opera Theatre program , make up the remainder of the roster for the tour and include, soprano, Margaret Higginson and bass, Wu Wei (a former member of CCO’s Artists Training Program in 2007), along with pianist, Beth Nielsen.
