It was a lovely day in Galway, until, of course it rained. We had a great day with the friendly population, who all seemed to be aware of our presence, and looked forward to meeting our first Irish audience.

Love Galway, love Chanticleer!

I've played in Ireland. They're a very receptive audience! Enjoy.

On of the great pleasures of touring Europe in the summer is singing in the fantastic acoustics of historically important churches from centuries we don't have at home. This one, St. Nicholas Collegiate, dates from 1320. Columbus worshipped here in 1477...

The church was jammed. The audience was completely still and extremely intent - and totally rambunctious at the end.Seems like they loved us - and vice versa...

As we boarded our plane to Frankfurt, and even after arriving in Galway, we were still flying high from the four amazing days of Chanticleer in Sonoma, our summer workshop for adult choral singers (scroll down to see it.) The final concert was this past Sunday, and we must say that it rocked...

There was of course one obvious way to celebrate our arrival in the land of Guinness at about l0pm last night after flying from San Francisco to Frankfurt to Dublin and taking a bus from there to here.

Thanks for the tickets; can't wait to hear you again...

Chanticleer was founded to explore the beautiful and complex vocal music of the Renaissance. Perhaps the greatest composer of the period was Orlando di Lasso, known as “The Divine.” So respected was he, that over 2000 of his works survive to this day...

We received beautiful bouquets - roses and orchids -during the huge applause at the end of our concert in the Shenzen Concert Hall. A great hall - and what an acoustic ! really superb- as it turns out by Yasuhisa Toyota, the acoustician who did LA's Disney Hall...

Your great reception reminds me of the enthusiastic greeting that the New Jersey Choral Society and numerous other groups received last summer in both Beijing and Shanghai, when we performed as part of the Pre-Olympic Cultural Arts Festival under the baton of Eric Dale Knapp. The audience in Beijing went especially wild when we sang parts of the "... It was an amazing experience for our combined choruses - 540 voices strong.

Good luck with the rest of your tour! Keep the posts coming!

After a day of taking in all the sensations of Shanghai (including of course many fascinating culinary things) we set out bravely to present our particular version of ensemble vocal music to a mainland Chinese audience for the first time...

Looks like lots of other tours, but remember we just flew 13 hours non stop from San Francisco and got through the airport in Shanghai in an amazingly short time, considering that announcements seemed to be indicating people arriving from the West Coast might be quarantined...
