Robert Lange Studios Kerry Brooks Solo
Robert Lange Studios Features Russian Trained Painter Kerry Brooks

Opening on January 8, Splendor, showcases the paintings of Kerry Brooks, who studied at the Ukrainian Academy of Art in Kiev, and the renowned Repin Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. She furthered her studies at the New York Academy of ...Art. Kerry Brooks will be creating a series of fifteen paintings that explore the beauty and dignity of the female form.

On view through the end of January, the exhibit is the artist's second showing of work in the historic French Quarter district of downtown Charleston. A festive reception open to the public will be held on Jan. 8, 2009 starting at 5:00 p.m. featuring wine, hors d'oeuvres, and music.

"Brook's combination of training has given her a unique style of painting that allows her to expresses her subjects emotion in a subtle and romantic way," said gallery owner Robert Lange. "These sensitive paintings are filled with chromatic grays, porcelain skin, and feminine forms cast in ethereal atmospheres."

Through manipulation of the formal constructs of a painting Brooks' creates portraits that reveal the particular character of her female subjects. The focus in her series lies within the delicate moments of these women and their interactions with the viewer.

"As the beginning of the twenty-first century experiences a renaissance in representational art, I seek, along with my "New Realist" contemporaries, to continue within the rich tradition of representational art and to transmit ideals such as beauty and truth through my work," says Brooks.

Recently, Brooks showcased her work at the Mary S. Oakley Area Artists Showcase at the Quincy Art Center, Quincy, Illinois. She has won numerous awards over the past five years and has paintings in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.

The Collector Says, "Collectors that are familiar with Russian nonconformist and contemporary art will appreciate Brook's approach to the female form."- William D. Marsh, Collector, New York
