The community is invited to join Trident Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society in honoring a fallen hero with the second annual Matthew J. Taylor Scholarship Ride to be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus (7000 Rivers Ave., North Charleston). Staff Sgt. Matthew J. Taylor, a Su...mmerville native, was killed on Sept. 20, 2008, while on patrol in Iraq. This event honors him by saluting his passion for riding. All proceeds from this event will go to fund seven student scholarships at TTC, including the Matthew J. Taylor Memorial Scholarship.
On-site registration opens at 11 a.m, and the motorcycle ride will begin at noon. The cost for participation is $15 per rider, $5 per passenger and $3 for all non-riders. The event will also offer family activities including live music, face painting, a jump castle for kids, door prizes, drawings and a stunt show performed by the East Coast Stunters.

Trident Technical College is holding a Veterans Day program on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to honor the contributions made by the United States military personnel and veterans. The program will take place at 10 a.m. at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus, in the College Center (Bldg. 920), 7000 Rivers Ave., North Charlesto...n. The event is free and open to the public.
The program will include posting of the nation’s colors by the Washington Light Infantry. Organized in 1807, the Washington Light Infantry is one of the nation's oldest militia units. Since 1807, the Washington Light Infantry has participated as a unit exhibiting honor and bravery in every major war this country has fought. The guest speaker is Brig. Gen. Henry I. Siegling Sr., Commander of the Washington Light Infantry; retired Army Reserves; retired Supervisor in Charge Federal Probation. A reception will follow the program.
