Charlie Lawson & Oak Hill started as a group approximately 15 years ago. The band toured successfully for about 10 years. Charlie's mother, Maryln Lawson, has played bass for the band from the beginning...and when she was diagnosed with cancer, they took some time off so Charlie could be at home with her. We are glad to say that she has been in remission for several years now and is doing well.
The group has done very few shows since then...but there has always been hope that they will get back on their feet again and come back as strong as ever. Charlie Lawson & Oak Hill has a very strong following throughout the Midwest and other regions of the country.
Charlie Lawson & Oak Hill were awarded the LSSCMA Song of the Year in 2000 for "Where the Old Home Stood" and were named SPBGMA Midwest Bluegrass Band of the Year (Traditional) in 2001.
Charlie is the recipient of:
- LSSCMA Instrumentalist, Male Vocalist, and Entertainer of the Year in 2000
- LSSCMA Lone Star of Texas Music Award in 2000
- SPBGMA Midwest Entertainer of the Year 2001, 2002, & 2003
- 2000 Airplay Int'l King Eagle Award (which requires being in the top 10 on the bluegrass/country charts in atleast 3 countries simultaneously)
- 2001 inductee of the Oil City, Michigan Salt River Bluegrass Hall of Fame
Maryln Lawson was named SPBGMA Midwest Bluegrass Bass Fiddler Performer of the Year in 2001 & 2003.
