Charlotte nurse Susan Gawlik was 35 when she got her first mammogram two months ago. It was supposed to provide a baseline for future scans. Instead, it detected cancer.

Charlotte Radiology Joint statement from local medical experts: As breast cancer and women’s health experts we feel it is important for women to continue following screening recommendations from the ACS, including scheduling annual mammograms beginning at age 40. We do not support the recent recommendations presented by the USPSTF and fe...el their findings are not in the best interest of women’s health.

I appreciate the opportunity to speak about my experience with breast cancer and screening mammography. For obvious reasons, early detection methods for breast cancer is a topic that I feel very strongly about. It is because of a screening mammogram at age 35 that my cancer was detected and I was given the opportunity to be treated and cured. I ... See Moream convinced that if I had waited until I had symptoms or until I was 40 (or definitely 50 based on the new recommendations) my outcome would be very different. Thank you to Carlotte Radiology, your Radiologists, mammography techs and other support staff. Even through this scary and difficult time, I have been very impressed with the excellent customer service and high quality care that I received during each appointment as my diagnosis was being determined.

Breast Cancer at 35? so sorry! Good thing you went for a mammogram, right? It's a money thing, goes with the new health care reform.

Newly revised U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendations could reverse the 30 percent decline in breast cancer morbidity and mortality since 1990, causing undue suffering to women facing breast cancer and their families.

Excellent article, should be read by all, especially every woman... Thank you for posting. And this is the government that wants to provide universal health care... I think not.
