Jonathan I have a question for you (and anyone else) regarding disclosure and SMM ethics... when submitting content on SU, how important is disclosure? Generally, my rule of thumb has been to make no effort to hide who I work for, but not necessarily disclose my employer blatantly (ie, within a review on a submission). I only... try to submit content I genuinely feel is of good quality/useful/interesting.

Is this unethical in your opinion?

Muhammad Saleem How does the new Twitter terms of service affect you? Do you care that they changed it and made some provisions (for ads and such)?

blog.twitter.com
At the start, critics often said, "Twitter is fun, but it's not useful." At one point @ev responded dryly with, "Neither is ice cream." Things have come a long way in a short time. We recognized potential early but users and platform developers would demonstrate how much more Twitter could be. ...

Honestly, they don't affect me as far as I can tell. I don't really care about the ads. I want Twitter to be successful and the people behind it to be wealthy. Obviously they could overdo it, but I view that as really unlikely.

I absolutely agree. If they can make money, and in return offer us an even more robust product (and more stable too), I'm all for it.

Muhammad Saleem Can you think of any other ugly truths of modern journalism? Why do you think this is the case, are the media consumers at fault?

www.10000words.net
The reason you're more likely to read about a shooting spree than a library opening is because with dwindling resources, broadcasters and print publications must devote their time to stories that will grab the most attention. ...

Hi Leena, I think you're spot on as far as the problems are concerned. I think a lot of them are driven by competition and trying to retain eyeballs. Newsrooms need to keep enforcing the ethics policies.

The internet has wrought huge changes on our lives – both positive and negative – in the fifteen years since its use became widespread.

Muhammad Saleem Google Wave looks like an incredibly interesting concept. However, it also seems complicated enough to prevent mass adoption. Do you think Wave will be as successful or widely used as other Google services?
