The latest statistics reveal that 14 million children in America are living in poverty. What would Jesus do? His call is clear.

The U.S. Census Bureau released data showing that in 2008, the number of children living in poverty has increased by 750,000 to 14.1 million. This is the biggest increase in child poverty since 1992. As the church we must be the extension of the the work of Jesus in this world. http://www.childrensdefense.org/news-med ia/cdf-press-releases/2009/20090910-cens us-bureau-statistics-uninsured-poverty.h tml

This past Sunday we had a picnic/BBQ at Humboldt Park just after church. In the spirit of the retreat and just wanting to get to know everyone better and grow community, we thought it would be fun to head to the park for lunch, games, etc. Nothing really planned, just hanging out with community in the community. We end...ed up with more than 40 adults and kids over the course of the afternoon, many of whom didn't know each other prior to Sunday. Because of the great time we all had, we decided to take advantage of what little left we may have of summer and do it again.
Biz and I will bring some softball stuff, bags tables, frisbee, etc, and if you have anything you'd like to bring, please do! If you have kids, please bring them! There is tons for them to do and the swimming pond is open so they can play on a sandy beach and swim at the park.
As for food, Biz and I will bring some basics for the grill - hot dog and burgers - and probably some condiments. We'll also grab a cooler or two.Read More

Hang out at Humboldt Park this Sunday after church!

As for food, some hot dogs, burgers and condiments will be there, but it probably won't be able to feed everyone and most will want more than just hot dogs and burgers. If you come, please bring a little something to be shared by the group (ie chips, beverages, a cooler with ice, etc.) in addition to anything you bring for yourself. If you have any questions, contact Jud Murchie.
