School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Visiting Artists Program

School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Visiting Artists Program SAIC alumna Saya Woolfalk (MFA 2004) will present her ongoing project No Place, a multimedia, fictional future that reworks tropes of sexual, racial, and gender difference on February 2, 2010. The characters and stories in Woolfalk's constructed reality evoke travel narratives, science fiction, and the rhetoric of anth...ropology to investigate human possibilities (and impossibilities). Through diverse forms of installation, video, painting, drawing, performance, and sound, she reflects on human life and its future through configurations of biology, sociality, and the environment. Woolfalk's selected exhibitions include PS1/MoMA, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art; Studio Museum in Harlem; and Momenta Art, New York. She has been an artist in residence at Skowhegan, Yaddo, Sculpture Space, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. Presented in collaboration with SAIC Alumni Relations.

School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Visiting Artists Program Helsinki-based artist Liisa Roberts employs a range of media and approaches including film, performance, texts, publications, and photographs. Roberts will screen her film _What's the Time in Vyborg?_ (2001-2004), which synthesizes a range of historical and contemporary views of this former Finnish capital now located... within the Russian Federation. This film was developed and shot in a series of workshops with local teenagers between 2001-2003 held in the Alvar Aalto-designed municipal library and reflects on the restoration of a monument of Modern Finnish architecture within its new geopolitical context. Since the early 1990's, Roberts has exhibited widely including exhibitions at Artists Space, P.S.1, Documenta X, and The Biennale of Sydney in 2006.
