Become a member of the Society for Urban Nature (SUN), the auxiliary board of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. SUN’s mission is to bring together emerging young professionals and civic leaders who are committed to increasing awareness and financial support for the Museum.
Your Role
As a member of the Society for Urban Nature, you are an ambassador for the Museum, shining light on the importance of nature education and sustainable living in Chicago. Members participate on one of two committees (fundraising or recruitment) and attend general and committee meetings and SUN events.
The Recruitment Committee works to bring in new SUN members through recruitment events and other outreach methods. The Fundraising Committee focuses on planning SUN's annual fundraising event the Helios Bash in August, and other networking and fundraising events throughout the year.
Benefits of Membership
• Invitation to special events, adult education programs, and lecture series.
• Free subscription to Nature Museum publications.
• Opportunity to network with fellow professionals.
• Participation on committees such as organizing annual fundraiser.
Dues: $100 tax-deductible contribution

Helios Bash Info
Members organize SUN’s annual fundraiser Helios Bash to support the Museum’s outdoor prairie exhibition. The event will be hosted at the Nature Museum on August 20, 2010 and will feature local, sustainable food, an open bar, live entertainment, and a silent auction and raffle.

Since opening its doors in 1999, the Nature Museum has inspired 1.8 million people to learn about and care for nature and the environment. The Museum trains and supports more than 2,000 Chicago teachers and 70,000 students in 430 schools annually, and continues to reach more students and teachers each year. The Nature Museum is committed to education in the classroom and in our Museum.
