Clevelanders remain, by nature, a self-deprecating lot. But before long, calling their town hip, cosmopolitan - even splendid - won't sound so ironic.

NOT impressed. This is not the kind of person I would want my children to look up to. Wrestling is loud and obnoxious. It promotes disrespect and violence. I certainly don't want my son to aspire to be like him. I'm sure Matt has many great qualities and I am glad he has overcome ADHD and accomplished his own personal goals. I just don't ... Read Morethink that images of him beating the crap out of someone is appropriate for kids. I don't think that children under the age of 13 should be allowed to even watch that stuff.

I agree with Robin. While it's good that Matt has apparently found an outlet for his adhd, I don't let my 9 year old son w/adhd watch that wrestling stuff. I'm an open-minded person, but would not want my son to look up to someone that does what he does for a living. We have too much violence on tv, & in the real world and as parents we have to protect our kids, its our duty and job.

Early diagnosis is the key. I work with many children whose parents have known for years there was a problem, but everyone told them it was just developmental. We have a 12 year old gifted young man who is starting to learn how to read. If only he had intervention earlier.

Sorry, I do not agree with waiting until the child is 8 years old. When you have an obvious ADHD child, you know that something is going on, even if you're not sure if it's ADHD, etc. My son is 4 and I have had 3 different doctors tell me he has ADHD with some symptoms of ODD. On top of that, I have had him evaluated by several different ... Read Moreprograms. Now that I look back, I can see very early signs. But with a boy, you just assume that he is an "active boy". It's hard to tell the difference. But you KNOW that something is going on. Have him checked out. I was very opposed to meds, but I now realize that my son is a prime candidate. It is very obvious that he cannot control his impulsivity and is losing friends left and right. I now have him in a behavioral program that is run by a hospital and I am seeing improvement. My primary goal is to have his symptoms under control before he starts kindergarten next year.

Very resourceful information. I agree these children don't need anyone that is judgamental or labeling them. My son has been diagnosed with AD/HD plus impulsive behavior since he was three and know he will be 12 in November. I have had my hands full my son .Yes you as parents have to give them the gift of time and patience. Plus unconditional love these children are very smart and very lovable. They can't help it.

My son was diagnosed in the 3rd grade & we fought the Rx for a year - and now...they are SO helpful. I can't imagine starting all this now at 8th grade. While the Rx is huge, it won't work wtihout the behavioral piece - and I'm now convinced that it's critical for kids to have the behavioral piece as nearly instinct before HS. Another huge help ....Study Hall - would recommend to EVERY ADHD student prior to HS.

I have a 9th grader who was diagnosed at 5. Don't think he would be a sp.ed & honors student tackling AP World History this year if he hadn't had those extra years to pit the correct skills in place. He still has some behavior & maturity issues but academically, he's come a long way! I helped alleviate the self esteem issues by signing him up for ... Now I'm working on doing the same for my 4th grader who was dx three years ago but really had it confirmed within the past year.
