Children Deserve A Chance Foundation
ESPN anchorman Scott Van Pelt will emcee the Third Annual Children Deserve a Chance Foundation Golf Classic, which will take place July 11, 2009 at Meadia Heights Golf Club in Lancaster, Pa.
The Golf Classic will have two shotgun starts, with the first group starting at 7:45 a.m. and the second group starting at 1:30 p....m. Each outing will have 25 teams with four golfers on each team, totaling 200 golfers for the day.
After each round of golf, the golfers will be served a buffet-style dinner in the Meadia Heights Ballroom. The first group will eat at 12:30 p.m. and the second group will eat at 6:30 p.m. During the dinners, festivities will include a short video about the Foundation, keynote speakers discussing the Foundation and choosing silent auction and raffle winners. Additionally, tournament winners will be announced and trophies awarded to the top place finishers.
At 7 p.m., Van Pelt will announce this year’s Children Deserve a Chance Foundation scholarship winners. $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to two graduates of McCaskey High School and two graduates of Conestoga Valley High School. The Foundation awards multiple scholarships annually to local high school students who demonstrate a desire to work hard and better themselves but who may not have the financial resources.
Through the end of June, teams of four golfers registered for the tournament at $400 per team, all of which benefits the Foundation. The registration fee includes green fees, golf carts, dinner, UnderArmour polo shirts and a gift bag. Additionally, golfers can bid on silent auction items and participate in several raffles throughout the day. The top silent auction items include an autographed Donovan McNabb jersey, an autographed Arnold Palmer framed photo, two tickets to Tiger Woods’ Golf Outing at Congressional Country Club and an exclusive Masters Basket, among others. The top raffle prizes include a Callaway uPro golf GPS; a two-night, all-inclusive stay at Woodloch Pine Resort in Hawley, Pa.; and a three-night, all-inclusive beachfront stay at Quality Inn in Ocean City, Md., among others.
The Foundation is in the midst of a yearlong “Power in Numbers” campaign to raise money for the opening of the Children Deserve a Chance Developmental Center in Lancaster, Pa. The campaign, which kicked off in February, aims to raise at least $500,000 over the next year to help cover costs involved in opening the Developmental Center. The “Power in Numbers” theme emphasizes the goal of getting a lot of people involved in the Foundation to make a difference in children’s lives.
Jordan Steffy founded the Children Deserve a Chance Foundation in 2004. Its mission is to aid in the financial, emotional as well as spiritual development of underprivileged and disabled youth.
