big heat dance
Swing down to Waterloo for the hottest dance in London. Sizzling live sounds will make you Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Boogie Woogie, or however you like to move. Need to learn some steps? No problem. We’ll have a brilliant dance demo to show you how to swing the night away. And, the best dressed dancers get a free drink! Join us to dance, dance, dance upon injustice!

Five piece band, Sam Chaplin and the Jazzbomb, will be rocking the joint. Fresh out of college, they are among the best jazz musicians of their generation. These talents are already playing at the world’s top venues and with jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis and Stan Tracey, and popular artists like Eric Clapton, Michael Buble and Katie Melua.
This is a swing dance with a difference because the Big Heat Swing Dance is also about global warming. We’ll have a special 'intermission discussion' about climate change issues that all of us, and especially the world's poor, are facing today. We'll take a few minutes to think about how we can engage positively with the issues and make our voices heard so we can help those in developing countries already suffering the effects of global warming.

There will be fairtrade juice cocktails to refresh you and the best dressed dancers get a free drink!

Venue: St John's, Waterloo Road, London.
Tube: Waterloo
Price: £10 (£8 Students) (+ booking fee)
Friday 10 May (from 7pm)
& Saturday 10th May (from 7pm)

Saturday May 17, 7:30pm. Clwb Ifor Bach, 11 Womanby Street, Cardiff. CF10 1BR

Cardiff’s premiere Welsh language music venue is opening its doors in support of Christian Aid Week. Some of Wales’ leading music acts, including Gwyneth Glyn and Clinigol (Clinical) have agreed to perform at this special night.

Gwyneth Glyn is a popular folk singer and performed at the Cut the Carbon rally in Cardiff last year. She penned a song about climate change, ‘Gaea’n Gynnar’ (‘Winter’s Early) especially for the day.

Electro-pop band Clinigol are brothers Geraint and Christian Aid’s very own Aled Pickard. Bringing a new sound to the Welsh music scene, Clinigol aim to make you dance and have a good time!

With more artists yet to be confirmed, it promises to be a fantastic evening of live music that will also help raise money to support Christian Aid’s work.

This is where you and thousands of people across Ireland and Britain pledge to make a difference. With your generosity we hope to raise millions for the world's poor and oppressed. So please give what you can.

We also want to defeat injustice and poverty. For that we need to create a movement of change so the voices of the powerless are no longer ignored by the powerful. That's why we want more than your money: we want your time, energy and passion so you and people around you have a stake in fighting for a fairer world now.

So please pledge to do something for Christian Aid Week. It doesn't matter how big or small your pledge is. Whatever you do, do something.

Have a look at this video of a house-gig-party held in January that raised over £160 for Christian Aid.

Christian Aid supporters in Liverpool are holding another party, this time in support of Christian Aid week!

Like the last party, this one will see acoustic bands playing in the living room, a DJ playing sets until 6am, poetry readings on Kenya, a table of petitions to sign, free badges, balloons, stickers and tattoo transfers and a bucket to throw your slummy into. Bring your own booze.

Playing live will be Eight Day Army, Metro Manilla Aid and members of Mood Food.

So come on down to this party on Saturday 10th May 2008 at 8pm and enjoy a 'different' style of fundraiser. You can raise money for a good cause or just chat with your mates, have a dance and a drink and treat it like a normal party. It's up to you.

Hey, this page is great. i decided to e-mail my local MP about climate change and got a responce back within 24hrs. I wasn't fobbed off like i expected to and she backs the idea of having carbon emissions cut by at least 80% which i thought was good.

Hi - good to find this page. At St. Julian's Baptist Church in Newport we are planning a whole week of events. Including Quizaid, a rock gig, a jazz gig, a carwash, and other stuff.

It's going to be a great week! I'm coordinating the events, so watch my blog for details.
