Chuck Sandy and Curtis Kelly like this from Emerson: "Every great moment in the annals of the world is the triumph of some enthusiasm" & want to know: What in your teaching life are you most enthusiastic about these days? What are you doing in the classroom or learning about that has you excited? Share it, please.

Ira Arsy Hello Chuck and Curtis......Nice to meet you here, and I want to join in this a big group of teachers.my problem is how to make my students speak English fluently? What do you think? What your method? thanks.

Hello Ira and welcome here! It's great to have you with us. Could you tell us more about your teaching situation? How old are your students and what is their level? Also, what do you mean by "fluently" ? I ask because we find that when goals are achievable students are much more likely to stay actively motivated than when goals are vague and ... See Moreperhaps unreachable. We usually find that a goal such as "I want my students to be able to do X with English" or " by the end of the month students will be able to do Y in English" a more effective way of doing things than aiming towards overall fluency. What do you think?

Welcome Sopardi. We're glad you here. As for your question about how to join us: you just did^^ Now tell us about your teaching life and what you find most challenging about it. We'd all love to know.

We don't have a program, though: we're just a big group of teachers discussing things and working to make things better: one school, one class, one student at a time. It's as simple and complex as that.

Chuck Sandy and Curtis Kelly love this from John Gardner: "We are continually faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as unsolvable problems" & wonder: what's a "problem" in your school or classroom you're working to solve right now?

Sara is right, plus No Child Left Behind (or more accurately, No Teacher Left Standing) has created a nightmare of testing. We are testing so many days per year now that we have much less time to teach. NCLB has taken the fun out of learning AND teaching.

As much as it may be true, its a cop out to say that public school itself is fundamentally flawed in its design and doctrine. Each teacher is responsible for making the changes they can to improve their learning environment despite the limitations. Dont wait for others to make changes. Lead the way and others will follow.

Libért Libérti Thanks for sharing about Grammarman comic here. I've tried some of the
stuff there, and my students loved them so much. They didn't 'realise'
that they're actually studying. ^^ More enlightments please.

Chuck Sandy and Curtis Kelly are thinking about the old standbys of language learning -- things like drills, repetition, vocabulary cards & the like -- and wondering if you think they still have a place in the 21st century classroom? If so, what place?

@Leonie Overbeek I agree that repitition is a big part of learning by video games. But it goes much deeper than that. These games perform at almost every cognitive level including affective and moral. Check out: http://wp.me/ptcfd-J

Maria, it's very pleasing that you've reminded us all about this. It rings me a bell to ss & fellow teachers at school in Medan-North Sumatra, where I previously worked. During Teacher's Day there would be no classes & students would decorate their respective form teacher's classroom as well as making various tasty cake, cookies & soft drinks ... See Moreavailable for free for those visiting their classrooms. When their classroom became the most visited of all, they would be very proud of it. And for that, they would go to any length in order to become 'the most visited class'. They would provide any other free service like massaging male teachers' shoulders. If you get carried away with tasty cake they provide, the teacher's day would change to become weight gaining day, hahaha...
