A rummage sale can be in a garage or yard, or even a basement or in another building. But in the Midwest, a garage sale is in a garage and a yard sale is out in the yard!

In North East Texas, they are pretty much interchangeable. Personally, I think it's a yard sale if it's in a yard, a garage sale if it's in a garage, and a rummage sale if it's somewhere else inside.

Funny. I remember a Christmas when I was a kid that my parents served spagetti with a choice of tomato sauce and/or pesto to be festive! :)
