City of Columbia Climate Protection Action Campaign Pollution Prevention Tip: Indoor air is three times as polluted than outdoor air! Use natural cleaners. Buy natural paints and finishes or water-based paints with low-VOC. Add some plants to your home or office, too. Although Pollution Prevention Week is coming to an end, clean air is important all year long! For more information on ways you can make a difference, visit www.coccpac.com.

City of Columbia Climate Protection Action Campaign Pollution Prevention Tip: Don't idle. If you stop for more than 30 seconds, turn off your engine. Even 10 seconds of idling can use more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it.

City of Columbia Climate Protection Action Campaign Pollution Prevention Tip: Drive a little less - you'll save gas and money, and fewer road miles mean lower ground-level ozone. It's not as hard as you think. Combine all of your errands and make one trip. Take your lunch once a week. Ride with a friend every time you can. Telecommute one day a week. Tell us how you're driving less these days!

City of Columbia Climate Protection Action Campaign Pollution Prevention Tip: Fill 'er up after hours. When you fill up your gas tank, vapors escape into the air, adding volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to the ground-level ozone mixture. By waiting until after the heat of the day, you're contributing less to the chemical soup of pollutants to be cooked by the sun that produces unhealthy concentrations of ozone.

Did you know that the EPA is likely to deem the Midlands non-attainment in ground level ozone in the next 18-24 months? The Palmetto State Clean Fuels Coalition (PSCFC) is part of the Clean Cities program and is one of 88 designated coalitions in the United States. The Department of Energy approved the application for PSCFC's designation in 2003, recognizing the commitment of our stakeholders to building an alternative fuels market in S...outh Carolina. This partnership must implement all the objectives outlined in the Program Plan. Although this will be hard work, all the stakeholders in the PSCFC have already demonstrated their level of commitment to alternative fuels. Clean Cities is a locally based, voluntary public/private partnership coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) that expands the use of alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel. Legal alternatives under EPAct92 include CNG, ethanol, methanol, electricity, and liquefied petroleum gas (propane).Read More
