City of Thornton Water Conservation The weather is going to be beautiful this week! It's a great time to clean up those flower beds and plant some bulbs for next year. Iris are a great choice for an easy to grow, low water demand plant. They have a very long life span. Some nice varieties to look for: Bearded Iris, German Iris, The Rainbow Flower and Poor Man's Orchid.

City of Thornton Water Conservation Good news. Checked another toilet and flapper for leaks today and everything is working as it should. Do you want to test your toilet for leaks? Email your Thornton address to info@thorntonwater.com and we will send you a free water conservation kit.

City of Thornton Water Conservation Checked a toilet for leaks this morning. How? Just put a dye tablet or food coloring in toilet tank. Wait several minutes. If color appears in bowl, there is a leak. Leaks can be silent so this is a great test to determone if you have a leaky flapper. Today's toilet tested negative for leaks. Tomorrow I will be testing an older toilet.......stay tuned for the results.

City of Thornton Water Conservation The practice of conservation must spring from a conviction of what is ethically and aesthetically right, as well as what is economically expedient. A thing is right only when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the community, and the community includes the soil, waters, fauna, and flora, as well as people. -Aldo Leopold

City of Thornton Water Conservation went on a tour of the Thornton Water Treatment facilities yesterday. Very impressive operation, using traditional and state of the art treatment methods to bring us quality drinking water. When you turn on the tap today think about the journey that water has taken.

Break the amount of watering time for each sprinkler zone into three shorter cycles. This allows water to soak deeper into the soil and require less frequent watering.

City of Thornton Water Conservation Did you know? Right now is a great time for planting. The ideal planting time is from September to April except for frost-sensitive species. Roots grow throughout the cooler months, allowing the plants to get established before the onset of summer heat. You'll find a wide selection of plants in garden centers during the September-April timeframe. Remember to look for low water use plants.
