CivicCamp Calgary Carma Development held a design charette
to discuss ideas about the company's plans for its North Stoney
Lands--an area north of Coventry Hills.

Residential land developers are visionaries of sorts. Where others see plain, rather ordinary stretches of land with little or no dramatic identifying marks to make the area stand out, developers see vibrant communities where people can live, work and play.

Nice infomercial Herald! I quite enjoyed the part where Lui explains how Plan It removed " the ability for us to distribute and introduce more diverse housing products through the rest of our community." Really? Thats whats keeping you? History and reality would argue otherwise.

CivicCamp Calgary Underwhelming and underperforming outcomes from today's Council meeting on Plan It.

I was embarrassed yesterday. Ashamed that Council has come down to this...a never-endering series of Cow-tows to special interest groups that fund political campaigns...at the expense of current and future Calgarians.

If you ever have had an inkling to get involved with our city's politcal processes. THAT TIME IS NOW. We have 12 months left ... Read Moreuntil our next Civic election in October 2010. Change will be made on City Council on a scale that has never been seen before....We - will make that change happen!

So - get involved, come out to Civic Camp, get engaged, get excited, learn, ask questions, meet people, challenge assumptions, support peope that share your passions, express your views...VOTE...Help on a campaign...help make a better city!

While I can't condone the further reductions in thresholds and the way they were achieved, I am glad that Calgary finally has 2 principled and informed plans in place that allow smart decisions to move forward that were previously halted from the get-go: linking transit decisions to land use, optimizing existing infrastructure, creating complete communities. This is what Calgary needs and now has a policy framework for!
