1958 Austin Healey Sprite Frogeye MkI
Delightful Frogeye, restored to show standard, has been the subject of a total restoration following its import from South Africa in the mid-1990s. The restoration was only completed in the last few years and the car has seen minimal use since. Finished in Speedwell Blue w...ith cream wire wheels, new weather equipment including tonneau and side-screens. Comprehensive file of documentation includes Heritage Trust certificate, photographic record of rebuild, plus extensive bills showing thousands to have been spent. Drives extremely well. A superb specimen in all respects. MOT certificate to 27th June 2010. Call me for more information (apologies for average photos which had to be taken inside as it started to snow very heavily this afternoon!!)

1949 Vauxhall Wyvern
This delightful and rare Vauxhall Wyvern has a low recorded mileage of 77,000. We are told the mileage is genuine and this is supported by a real feel of originality and excellent original leather that fits with that of a low mileage the car. The Vauxhall has had only four owners from new ...and was kept in storage off the road for almost 20 years. The car has spent much of its later life in the North East being with the same owner from 1989 to 2008. Our Wyvern was then sold to a motor engineer less than one mile away from its long term owner. Having spent so long off the road the engine was rebuilt with new pistons and the crank shaft was re-ground. The engineer then replaced the radiator, water pump and clutch. All new gaskets, a new oil pump and new timing chain were also fitted and the cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded. The Vauxhall was then put through an MOT and had regular over the summer completing around 1000 miles.
The car is beautiful inside with exceptionally clean upholstery. The paintwork is very smart and the odd scratch only gives away the cars age. The paint has a deep shine and all the bodywork is perfect. The chrome is good although the grille has some pitting. The Wyvern is very smart and looks an honest and very genuine example. Benefiting from the recent work, we are pleased to say this 40's car drives as good as the appearance would suggest. The gearbox is perfectly smooth and the car handles well. The engine is tight and like new as you would expect from the recent work.

Even though Leominster is many meandering miles from the Motorway network, the final Brightwells sale of the 2009 UK collector vehicle auction season was once again very well attended, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. Top priced seller under the hammer on a Saturday afternoon in the Welsh Marches was a freshly restored 19...56 Jaguar XK140 Coupe which raised £51,150, £6150 more than the guide price. The Herefordshire firm also sold a recently repainted 1958 Jaguar XK150SE Fixed Head with triple carb fed 3.8-litre engine for £22,000. Both Jags had always been right-hand drive home market cars.
A London to Brighton Run eligible 1903 Oldsmobile Curved Dash Veteran also did well here, attracting £38,850. A claimed to be largely original 1964 Daimler SP250 C-Spec Dart on wires made £30,360 and a really mint 1963 250 V8 Saloon auto with upgrades £17,160.
A recently chassis-up rebuilt 1951 Bentley MkVI with ‘Big Bore’ 4.6-litre motor found £25,520, a well presented US restored 1941 Buick Super Eight Coupe £22,000, a rare 1955 Swallow Doretti formerly owned by Duncan Rabagliatti £17,600 and a charming 1948 Rover P2 12hp with AP Aircraft of Coventry crafted 4-seater open Tourer coachwork £16,500.
A 1970 Lotus Elan S4 Drophead with chassis replaced during restoration made the required £15,510 and a later type Elan SE Turbo Spyder sold for £8525 had done less than 19,000 miles from new in 1991. A restored 1959 Triumph TR3A raised a more than forecast £16,170, and £7040 bought an always right-hand drive 1974 TR6 and £6600 a former export TR6 from the same year converted to right-hand drive during restoration.
Particularly tidy was a restored 1969 Austin-Healey Sprite MkIV sold for £7810 and an absolutely spotless 1970 Mini Cooper 2380S Mk3 that had been extensively modified for modern tarmac rallying must have cost considerably more than the £7920 paid to restore, let alone prep.
Brightwells next sale for classics takes place at their purpose-built auctions centre just outside Leominster Wednesday 24 March 2010.

Classic Cars For Sale
Both the largest sale total and highest percentage sold rate of the UK end of season sales were recorded by Bonhams at London’s Olympia, reports Richard Hudson-Evans, where both of the early Rolls-Royces belonging to the late Thomas Love realised the required money. His 1906 Light 20hp with minimalist factory ‘On-Test’... bodywork fetched £441,500 and £199,500 was available for his 1913 40/50hp Silver Ghost which had also been rebodied with Open-Drive Limousine coachwork in the 1970s.
A 1963 AC Shelby Cobra Mk2 Roadster with 289ci/4.7-litre motor, formerly owned by major collector Peter Agg and ex-F1 racer Rupert Keegan, made £232,500 and £146,700 with premium was paid for a Chris Shenton rebuilt and super mint 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series 4.
A quartet of cars from the well stocked stable of the late Ivor Silverstone magnetised much interest with his 1953 Bentley R Type with Abbott Coupe bodywork raising a more than double top estimate £109,300 and a nicely patinated from earlier restoration 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster going for £63,100.
Two historically significant Jensens also changed hands again here. An ex-1938 RAC Rally S Type 3½-Litre Dual-Cowl Tourer attracted £65,300 and the 1973 Interceptor III Convertible owned in turn by best seller writers Harold Robbins and Frederick Forsyth was acquired for £24,150.
Milestone results from what was a £392,000 2009 UK record automobilia session were the £25,300 invested in a file of Ferrari related ephemera, which included an Enzo Ferrari signed letter, and the £5750 paid for a 1943 celebratory post-mission dinner menu autographed by the ‘Damn Busters’.
The European market leaders 2010 auction calendar - containing 15 sale dates for Europe so far - kicks off with a top car fixture on the first Saturday 23 January of Retromobile in Paris followed by UK season openers at Bonhams Kidlington salerooms Saturday 6 March and RAF Museum Hendon Monday 19 April.

1982 Aston Martin Lagonda V8 S2
Chassis N.: LOOL13213
Engine N.: V58013213
Colour: Burgundy
Interior: Magnolia leather
This is certainly the most beautiful of all Aston Martin Lagonda Series 1 currently available for sale and probably of all existing models worldwide.
This car with an exceptional documented history... and such a low original mileage of only 24,500 certified kilometres in its original colour specification of Winsor red and Magnolia upholstery with Burgundy piping. The car was never repainted and the cosmetic condition is irreproachable. It was always maintained with Zymöl, which offers an incredible protection against aging of both, paintwork and leather. The mechanics were maintained by the famous workshop Graber. It had been part of a collection for a long time and the owner rarely drove it, but never in the rain. The exceptional condition of the whole car is due to the important maintenance of the vehicle.
It was subsequently sold to a Spanish collector, also rarely driving the car (as he owns over 30 cars). The maintenance was then effectuated by his personal mechanic who never found any fault with this car.
This exceptional car is now available for sale in Spain, at a truly attractive price, all European taxes are paid and the original Swiss registration documents are still available.

There were buyers, many of them from the Eurozone, for three quarters of the H&H catalogue’s contents in the final Buxton sale of the Northern house’s 2009 UK auction season, reports Richard Hudson-Evans, with a 1924 Bentley raising the required £220,000 with premium. The once 3-Litre and now 4½-Litre Sports, which had... been driven by HRH Prince Michael of Kent on the 1995 Mille Miglia Storica, was a Team Prize winner in last year’s Le Mans Classic.
Having sold an AC Ace at each of its last four sales, this time a brace of Roadsters had been consigned. A 1956-made Ace with a US Ford 289ci V8 - but with a Bristol engine of the correct type as originally fitted included - duly found £107,800 and a 1955 AC-powered car sold for £94,600.
Really mint restored examples of the Jaguar XK120, the E Type Series 3, 1960 XK150 and 1974 Triumph Stag all sold well here. The 120 Roadster, which had Bathhurst period race provenance, fetched £77,000, the V12 Roadster £50,600, the 150SE Coupe £41,800 and the Stag with hard and soft-tops on wires a deservedly bullish £16,500.
Relatively recent Bentleys to successfully cross the block included a 1994 Continental R sold for £37,400 and a high-spec 2001 Arnage Red Label for £26,400. A Lotus Carlton, one of less than 1000, made a strong £15,400 and 1985 Renault 5 Turbo 2, reportedly one of the 200 ‘Homologation Specials’, went for £14,850.
Among MG prices recorded here were the £22,000 paid for a 1949 TC that had spent much of its life in the US, a more than top estimate £11,000 for a tidy MGA Fixed Head on steels and a double guide price £3410 for a 1969 Midget MkIII 1275 on wires.
Eighty-five percent of the classic bikes changed hands during Wednesday afternoon in December headed by a 1926 Brough Superior knocked down for £60,500. A 1955 Matchless G45 racer realised £44,000, which is thought to have been a new highest auction price for this model, and a Dr Who on TV exposed 1953 Vincent Rapide Series C fetched £25,850.
hilst in the Automobile section an assortment of lightweight E Type Jag panels in aluminium raised £5063 and a photo album entitled ’Beach Auto Racing Sunbeam 1000hp’ £3600. The next auction at the company’s regular Pavilion Gardens venue in the Peak District Spa town is scheduled for 17 February 2009.
