In early October, we encouraged everyone to move during our Dance Weekend, but it's okay to leave it to the professionals this time, because it's Ballet Weekend! Indeed there will be Tchaikovsky, but many others too, and not all from the Russian stage.

Classical WETA and WETA Public Television Our Around Town panelists think "Precious" is a "powerful story of how the human spirit can triumph." The Washington Post's Courtland Milloy says it's "a film of prurient interest that has about as much redeeming social value as a porn flick." (http://bit.ly/3qZI0B) What's your opinion?

I haven't seen it, but I did read Courtland Milloy's article in the Post and thought how refreshing it is to hear a different point of view on a movie that has become a darling of the critics.

It's hardly fair that I respond, not having seen Precious as yet, but I take Milloy's criticism with skeptism. Some times I think he nails a topic with brilliance, but then again, at other times he shoots so far wide of the mark as to miss the target all together. Guess I'll truly have to judge for m'self...
