BANDS FROM 7.30pm UNTIL 11pm
DJs FROM 11pm UNTIL 4am
THE GHOST FREQUENCY
Since forming in 2005, The Ghost Frequency found quick fame appearing on MTV2, NME Radar, and
playing main support to Hadouken! On their sell out UK tour.
Their releases have fallen well on Radio 1 receiving the support of DJ Zane Lowe, and XFM’s John
K...ennedy among others.
In December of 2007, the single ’Nightmare’ was voted 2nd in NME’s club chart of the year.
LA SHARK
What La Shark may lack in reputation, they make up via face paint, fancy dress and an unequivocally
quirky aura, complimented by their key and string thrashings of everything from folk ‐ punk and any
unlucky genres caught between ‐ Clash
O.CHILDREN
O CHILDREN delivers a booming exercise in how to perform a static dictatorship, with a set of
whirling melodies. – ArtrockerRead More

Club COG
Who: Akala, I Was A Cub Scout, We Start Fires, Eight Legs, Talk Taxis, Once a Thief, Dega Breaks
What: Club COG presents… ‘The Birthday Bash’
Where: Camden Dingwalls, Camden Lock, London, NW1 8AB. Nearest tube (Camden)
When: Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th June 2008
Age: 14+
Price: £8 advance/£10 on the door/£15 for both night...s
www.seetickets.com
At Check Out Gigs, we like to celebrate in style. Twice. So get yourself down to Camden's famous Dingwalls for two nights of spectacular music, back to back in the first week of June.
First, on Wednesday 4 June, Akala is in town. Britain's best rapper - by a distance - has toured as far afield as Vietnam and Nigeria, performing with artists as diverse and talented as Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera and Richard Ashcroft. With a Best Hip Hop MOBO award to his name and a second album described as 'startlingly effective' by The Guardian and 'dazzling' by Mojo, this could be your last chance to see him play such an intimate venue.
As you would expect with COG, the support are equally exciting. We Start Fires have been rightly acclaimed by NME as one of the very best up and coming bands in the country, and drawn rave reviews the length and breadth of the land. With Talk Taxis and Dega Breaks, two of London's hottest properties, completing the bill, it promises to be quite a night.
Then the next day we're doing it all again. This time your evening's entertainment will be provided by the fantastic I Was A Cub Scout, who are following their acclaimed performances in support of Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, with their own tour as probably the hottest band of the year. This is your last chance to see them in London this summer.
With COG favourites Once a Thief and NME's 'living, strumming proof that guitar music is fashionable' - Eight Legs - in support, as well as a very exciting set of special guests, the show should be pretty damn good.
Needless to say, both nights will be followed by London's finest DJs playing until the early hours of the morning. And with advance tickets available from www.checkoutgigs.com for just £8 - or an even more astonishing £15 for both nights - the COG birthday shows are the place to be in London this June.
Who knows? There might even be jelly and ice-cream.
Wednesday June 4th
AKALA
The modern-day Shakespeare already has a Best Hip Hop MOBO award to his name, and has toured as far afield as Vietnam and Nigeria, performing with artists as diverse as Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera and Richard Ashcroft. Excellent second album. Dazzling. Evocative - Mojo.
Startlingly effective - The Guardian.
**** - Q.
We Start Fires
Darlington's finest, rightly acclaimed by NME as one of the very best up and coming bands in the country.
Sludge-sleek with spiky guitars and ear splitting noise freakouts. Ones to watch - The Guardian
Gratifyingly aggressive, winningly pop – The Times
Talk Taxis
Fast but gentle - like the ex you wish you still talked to – Talk Taxis will drive you wild. If you'll pardon the pun.
Dega Breaks
Black and white disco punk that will delight fans of Blondie, The Cure and Depeche Mode alike.
Thursday June 5th
I WAS A CUB SCOUT
After acclaimed performances in support of Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly and ¡ForwardRussia!, 2008 has seen IWACS step out of the shadows and headline their own sell-out tour as probably the hottest band of the summer.
Songwriting that makes life that little more liveable – NME
These are epic-minded songs - The Guardian
Make you feel like something magical is happening in your ears and in your heart. – DrownedInSound.
& special guests..
Eight Legs
Take everything good about indie from the last year and squeeze it through a juicer. Eight Legs will come out the other side.
Eight Legs might be living, strumming proof that guitar music is fashionable – NME
Once a Thief
http://www.myspace.com/oncewerethiefs
Runners up in the National o2 Undiscovered competition.
Its kind of like Graham Coxton cranking out The Who covers at 4am on speed… In the end its frenzied
gutter punk with a ragtime pop edge reminiscent of Ray Davies ‐ Starry Night Music

With local heroes Assembly Now and NME's 'living, strumming proof that guitar music is fashionable' - Eight Legs - in support, as well as a very exciting set of special guests, the show should be pretty damn good.

Club COG
Speed Circus
http://www.myspace.com/speedcircus
A north London 7‐piece of real people playing real music. Somehow including ska, punk, rock and
blues, with influences ranging from Jewish to Russian to mid‐west America.
Expect the unexpected; catch them on a full day and you’ll see them introduced by Oz, their very own
clown...; blues harmonica legend howling slim joining them on stage; and you may even spot the boys
Kosov dancing
Once a Thief
http://www.myspace.com/oncewerethiefs
Runners up in the National o2 Undiscovered competition.
Its kind of like Graham Coxton cranking out The Who covers at 4am on speed… In the end its frenzied
gutter punk with a ragtime pop edge reminiscent of Ray Davies ‐ Starry Night Music
No Picasso
http://www.myspace.com/nopicassomusic
Self proclaimed musical artists whose music sounds like what Picasso would have sounded like if he’d
picked up a plectrum instead of a paintbrush. Gigsonair.com
Trailing Laces

"It’s a remarkably assured debut; a clear statement of intent." ‐ The Fly ‐ Levi's Ones to WatchRead More
