Coalition For Clean & Safe Ports KPCC's Molly Peterson brings us the touching story of a port truck driver who has been forced to pay for a new clean truck. With drivers making on average $10-11 an hour - this heartbreaking story illustrates why workers and their families can not be burden with the cost of cleaning up after industry polluters.

Coalition For Clean & Safe Ports Teamsters Port Division Bring JOY to Port Truck Drivers and Their Families: "Times are tough for us right now. There isn't much work and for those that do have work the companies are forcing them to pay for the new trucks. What is left in our paychecks is barely enough to pay bills. It's very sad and unfair but we will... continue to fight for the good job our families deserve. For now, I'm just glad our kids will have some presents this Christmas." Elias, Port Truck Driver

Call me crazy, but I think trucking companies -- rather than the the contract drivers they hire to haul cargo at about $10 an hour -- should pay the cost. I've heard that economists and policy analysts agree.
