I walked into my local Starbucks the other day and realized that they had made some serious changes to their menu: They had devoted 1/3 of the menu to Frappuccinnos (iced slushy beverages), 1/3 to teas, and 1/3 to coffee...

Great post on the O’Reilly site on how “Twitter is Not a Conversational Platform“. It made a number of points that resonated with me: I can count on one hand the number of people that I have “met” via Twitter. In fact, it might be zero...

A wave of articles are coming out marketing the value of more intrusive web advertising. To wit: Here Come TV Commercials Between Web Pages (TRI) “…ShortTail Media is testing a new ad unit that allows publishers to insert 15- and 30-second video ads between pages on their sites...

Today’s MediaPost covers anannouncement by Lotame with an article titled: “Lotame Mines Social Data From Facebook To Target Ads“...

I know that usually I focus this whiney blog on maligning things other people say, but I want to actually be constructive for a change. Let’s start with maligning things: Facebook and their newsfeed interface for application developers...

Jeremy Liew writes a post about techniques for targeting that Google does not offer and how effective they are for performance advertisers in other situations. Like any pathetic blogger, I must comment...

When you aren’t updating org charts on Cogmap, using spreadtweet will make it look like you are doing something else productive.

Seth does a nice contrarian take to get people’s minds thinking, but fails to caveat it sufficiently so let me do so. As always: It depends. Here is a Google Trends on books vs...

$750m for Bebo, AOL could have had Twitter for much less at the time, maybe the same price or less today. If AOL scooped up Twitter today, it would probably be lauded as a coup...

Another term I want credit for coining: The Flogosphere! The network of fake blogs that comprise 99% of the web sites you are reading! Jay Weintraub has written a great set of posts breaking down the flogosphere...

When I first joined the Online Advertising industry, my thesis was that online advertising spend as a function of total ad spend was a fraction of the time that people spent online, meaning that dramatic growth in online advertising was a virtual necessity...

In our on-going attempts to amuse with topical data-driven posts, I wanted to share some quick data re: the cartoon we posted the other day. From 9:45am EST to 10:00am EST today, there were 70 tweets that used the exact phrase: “for breakfast” in them...

Was reading a review of Steepster.com on Teaintech (Google juice, right there!) and to summarize it, it was: “Twitter, only customized for tea drinkers, a special needs community!” My first thought upon reading this was: There is always a spot for a niche site that serves a community with truly...

I was surfing around on AdBrite’s web self-service tool, checking out how similar it is to BidPlace SB in many ways, and I noticed that they offer gender targeting. Gender targeting is fantastic for advertisers that value it, but what AdBrite offers seems to good to be true...

A recent article in the New York Times included an extensive interview with Marissa Mayer about Google’s UI best practices. After reading it, I promptly thought about BidPlaceSB and how effectively we had incorporated her thoughts...

Lots of people in the blogosphere talking about Greg Yardley’s analysis that it doesn’t make sense to give your app away for free on the iPhone because the economics of paid are better...

Jeremy Liew has a nice post on 4th generation ad networks. Go read it, I commented, but I wanted to expound on my comment a bit. In my mind, as he described it, 1.0 was inventory aggregation. DoubleClick ad serving was, as he described, one approach here...

The local news crew has locked on to the newest Facebook sound bite: “We are the 6th biggest country in the world!” To wit: Los Angeles Times...

Everyone in the office is abuzz with talk of fmylife.com. Fmylife has skyrocketed to the top of traffic statistics in a very short period of time. Fmylife is a remarkably simple application...

A great critical analysis of the challenges that MapQuest faces is on Silicon Alley Insider, written by the former CTO of AOL, namely someone who theoretically had the power to make change and apparently did not...

GroupM has added a new clause to their terms and conditions indicating that they own all of the data associated with ads they buy and that data should be treated as confidential...

Want to hang out with the mighty Cogmap leadership? Just want to score a few sweet Cogmugs? Cogmap is hitting the road in February and March and wants to hang out with you...

Much has been made of how Facebook has throttled the virality of applications, but not as much has been said about how the decision to introduce advertising on canvas pages has limited the ability of app developers to monetize that inventory...

Dear Diary, I know it has been some time since I have written, but I have been so busy! I recently had an idea for a Facebook Application, so as usual, after stewing on it for a month, I started coding...

Just a quick note since I have not posted a note of late. Fixed a bug in version tracking for private maps. That is nice! Also, fixed a bug in chart creation that should make for fewer accidental public charts. It now remembers the state of the radio buttons...
