Join the College Democrats and Notre Dame Peace Fellowship to watch the highly acclaimed documentary by Brave New Films, Rethink Afghanistan. The Obama administration is approaching a major decision on the war in Afghanistan. It is essential that we are informed citizens on the war effort and that we demand the debat...e of a wide array of strategic options to improve Afghanistan and maintain the safety of the United States. Rethink Afghanistan is filmed on the ground in Afghanistan and will effectively inform you of the situation that our country currently faces.
After eight years of U.S. military engagement in Afghanistan, violence and instability still prevail. The military
approach to Afghanistan is not succeeding; further application of American military force will not bring stability
to the country or security to our own.
With over 90 percent of U.S. funding in Afghanistan directed toward military purposes, non-military strategic
options are not being pursued. The problems facing Afghan society are economic, social and political in nature,
and require economic, social and political solutions.
The U.S. can play a more constructive role in Afghanistan
by engaging civil society than by waging war.
Congress should begin debate on civilian alternatives to a failed military-based approach to bringing peace and
security to the region, starting with Congressional hearings.

College Democrats of Notre Dame Notre Dame 1101 calls!!!! IU Bloomington 1068 calls! Way to go College Democrats. Notre Dame is the MOST active school in Indiana. We have made roughly 4300 calls for health care reform in phonebanks since mid September.

Even though Indiana University at Bloomington has 21,365 students more than Notre Dame & Saint Mary's College we have made nearly as many calls for Health Care Reform as they have so far in this fall semester. This has prompted O...FA to schedule a competition between our College Democrats/Organizing for America volunteers to see which school can make more calls from 4 - 7 PM this Thursday, November 12. There will be official rules set up in regards to rules and script. We will be competing for free pizza at our next phonebank on Thursday Nov. 19th.
The calls will be focused on getting constituents to contact Senator Bayh. Now that the bill has passed the House we will focus on educating and encouraging people to contact Senator Bayh asking him to support Health Insurance Reform. Our five democratic congressmen have already stood for reform by voting yes this weekend on their bill. We ask Senator Bayh to stand with us and stand with his colleagues by voting yes on the Senate bill.
This competition is for pride and pizza! Even though we are a small school we are in the top 2 most active in the state. Let's cement our reputation as the most productive college in the Indiana! We are asking that every member of the College Democrats whether you have attended a meeting/phonebank or not comes to make calls for at least an hour.
