This is an exhibit focusing on the development and utilization of new and innovative accommodation devices. Our goal is to create an awareness of the connection between environment and the effectiveness of accommodation devices meeting the needs of people with disabilities. Library users will see what it is like to be ...two feet shorter, with no ability to move, hear, or talk. They will find that things we frequently take for granted and/or not pay attention to such as thresholds of doors will become more obvious as a challenge to some. With this exhibit we hope that viewers will have a better understanding of the need for future designs of assistive devices, buildings, and environmental spaces to meet the needs of all people.

The exhibit will be on display during the month of October 2009 in celebration of Disabilities Awareness Month. For more information go to http://www.lib.umd.edu/groups/diversity/
