Here is what I find amazing. For a small or large department that averages around 2 to 6 thousand calls a year, the risks that we endure are always there as compared to departments that run 10,000 calls a year. How much risk do we take and just look away saying that we do it this way all the time? The REAL question is, how can we live and advicate our jobs when we run the risk and loose a citizen or one of our own.

Kenneth... I think the majority of the department would have no problem taking some of "the hits" if the financial situation truly warranted it. It's hard to imagine how the "hits" are necessary though when the city spends millions a year paying farm owners not to develop lands when zoning can do the same for free, they issue 68 million for ... See Moredowntown trees and recycle bins, millions "restoring" a theater that was knocked to the ground except for some metal beam and rebuilt (knocking down the entire structure and building a replica would have been millions cheaper) and other projects. All of these projects are nice when times are good, but shouldn't this kind of money use be cut before basic and emergency services???

As a note the city council from what I have seen so far has been basically disgusted with Mayor Newberry's "brownout" plan and have now called an emergency meeting to deal with the issue. Hopefully a better fix can be found quickly.
To be continued...
