Join Columbia Water Center and Students & Engineers for a Better Society for a screening of "A Civil Action," which is based on a true story. The movie revolves around a court case about an incident where two drinking wells supplying water to a town were found to be contaminated with industrial solvents. The residents ......felt that the local factories caused the pollution and were responsible for the unusually high rate of leukemia deaths amongst the town's children. John Travolta plays the lawyer who is hired to represent the small town in their case against the factory.
Professor Patricia Culligan, who was involved in the research for the contamination site and has first-hand knowledge and insight, will speak about her experience. Prof. Culligan is a civil engineering professor at Columbia University.
