We seek to establish a learning community that actively connects undergraduate students to faculty and graduate students within the department as well as to people and institutions outside o...f the department. History of Art Department In a departure from its traditional format, The American Council for Southern Asian Art (ACSAA) Biennial Conference will be held in conjunction with another closely related conference, entitled "New Darshans: Seeing Southern Asian Religiosity and Visuality Across Disciplines," hosted by Denison University and The Ohio ...State University. Traditional and multidisciplinary panels are intended to provide a special opportunity to highlight and futher cross-disciplinary investigation of South and Southeast Asian Art and visual cultures while fostering appreciation of varying and emergent methodologies. Multi-disciplinary scholar, Philip Lutgendorf, Professor of Hindi and Modern Indian Studies, Co-Chair, South Asian Studies Program, University of Iowa Studies will keynote the conference dinner. Rachel McDermott, Professor of Religion, Barnard College, will provide a Closing Talk. An exhibition of the extensive Burmese art and artifact collection of the Denison Museum, entitled "Baptists in Burma, " will be on view during the conference.
